Steam Cloud is wonky

So today I hit a hiccup in steam cloud, then it said that I'm out of synch...well, I would like to know if my save files are stored on my computer and backups are on steam cloud. I dont want to enter a new game with my character only to be missing stuff or something because my save didnt synch with cloud.

Pretty much, I dont feel happy if the cloud is where my main save is. There is mistrust due to it's lack of reliability. So far I have been lucky, but every now and then I get a scare.

1. Turn off Steam Cloud globally. You should NEVER trust it. Especially in conjunction with Valheim.
2. ALWAYS have personal backups of your important data, and that includes your game saves.

You can find your saves for Steam Cloud being ON here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\YOURSTEAMID\892970\remote
...where YOURSTEAMID is a string of eight numbers resembling your Steam ID.

If Steam Cloud is OFF, you can find them here:
%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim

Just back up the entire "remote" or "Valheim" folder. And make multiple backups.

External hard drives are cheap. Your data is priceless.

Also the game now runs automatic back-ups, and you can set the interval in-game in settings --> misc

You should be able to check your Steam Cloud data by logging in here:
https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

Since the Valheim safe system overhaul, you should also be able to move your save files for worlds and characters between Cloud and Local. If you don't trust the Steam Cloud, you can even turn it off for Valheim entirely (AFTER you've moved your files to local).
You can always make manual backups of your save files.

If you want to know more about the old and new save system, you can check out the pinned threads in General Discussions and the Bugs & Technical sub-forum.
