they can totally be parried, just gotta time it right and watch your stamina. rest bonus helps with stamina management.

You must have enough block power to avoid being staggered, which is determined by your shield and your skill in blocking, and is multiplied by parrying at right time. Your health determines the amount of stagger capacity. It's always possible to block and parry even if it's not enough to mitigate the damage or if you get staggered and suffer larger amounts of leftover damage.

Do you use the same shield as before?

Is it possible you had a higher level character with better gear the last time you played, and now experience it more difficult by not having those benefits?

I'm pretty sure you weren't able to parry trolls with wooden shields even at launch. Not entirely sure everything that goes into the blocking/parrying mechanics, but I've also started over and no, I'm not trying to block or parry the trolls from the start. Getting better shields was always a fairly high priority.

Without a shield to parry, I tend to move around to avoid getting hit, and either jab them with an upgraded flint spear, or throw it at them.

You can, but the margin of error is way slimmer than most other mobs. I have done it once, maybe twice, and I never capitalize on it cause I am so shocked it worked I forget to attach in time.

I also noticed same difference in parry, not sure since its a fresh char. They probably tweaked the hp to block ratio or whatever its called

Do you mean trophies? Trophies can drop on ranged kills.
I've have plenty of trolls drop theirs for me after crude/finewood/draugr fang kill shots.

Just let him chase you, have him trigger his ground smash while you're on the copper pile, after a while he'll have mined a bunch of copper for you. Run around, pick it up, then head home leaving troll behind.

A QL 3 bronze buckler might be able to, A banded iron shield can for sure

Do yourself a favor, craft Bronze/Iron Atgeir, you'll be able to 1-2 cycle trolls with it
