For the love of f****** god

For the love of f****** god can you add a game mode where we don't drop everything when we die. I am getting ready to drop this game, which is a shame because it is great. I simply can't spend anymore time and energy losing valuable gear with little to no way to get it back without 3-4 attempts and an hour of my time lost. This is actively making the game unenjoyable.

But no fear, the setting you crave is coming in a future update.

Except if you lose all your gear deep in the swamp and the only way to get it back is to run and get lucky, or spend time crafting new gear and food to increase your odds, but then if your inventory was full, you won't be able to quickly pick it up, thus meaning you'll have to fight the gauntlet to get the rest of your stuff back. This feature is a nightmare. Maybe it's good for minecraft, but not this game. It turns a 3 hour play session into 6 hours with increased anxiety and cursing.
If you keep losing all your gear deep in the swamp, you weren't prepared to go deep into the swamp. Bring lots of poison resist meads and consume one before you enter the swamp (consuming it after you are poisoned provides no benefit). Poison resist mads make leeches, blobs, and oozers trivial to handle.

For the first time in the swamp you explore the outskirts and pin any features that you want to explore later. You are looking for your first turnip seeds (slightly glowing yellow flowers). Once you get them you return to your base and plant and reseed them several times to expand your stocks. (This will take several game days). Then you upgrade your food station and cook up some of the new and better foods. Use those new foods and more poison resist meads to venture a little farther into the swamps and farm draugrs and leeches for drops.

Take those drops back to your base and make even better foods and medium healing meads. When you have sufficient you'll be ready to explore further into the swamps and attempt your first crypt. Make sure that you build a temp portal near the crypt so that you can recover your gear quickly if you get killed.

Edit - if you don't want to (or don't know how to) use dev commands you can always ask someone that has a character with better gear to escort you through to your grave stone.

If you're up for a time wasting corpse run:

-console
F5
devcommands
god
debugmode
F5
Z
(fetch corpse whilst flying and invulnerable, then go to safety)
Z
F5
debugmode
god
F5
(turned off the cheat stuff again)

Not as easy in co-op but you can get the host to fetch your stuff if it's critical.

with the hildir update you can turn the death penalty just completly off on demand. sets the gameworld to casual difficulty for the session.

That's why I use mods. There's one for keeping all the inventory on death. And there's no death penalty anymore. So you keep all your experience. Maybe it's Valheim plus or another.

Totally agree. Faced this problem during raiding gnomes - two star frost mage was trolling me destroying his own tower and making it impossible to pick my stuff quickly. So I had a graveyard of my own. What I do need sometimes is an ability to stop being a vacuum.

What about the topic - people complain about different stuff. Some even were complaining that the map is too big. And that they need to sail. In a game about sailors.
You press v to disable auto pick up. If it's a super bad situation then gravestone scumming is your away as explained above. If you get corpse run buff before getting your main grave you will have the boosted 450kg

if you go over to the dark side... devcommands -> fly
But you will never experience the game the same way again.

They've already got that in the works, according to a Tweet from one of the devs. No news on when it will be implemented, though.

After death you get a huge stamina bonus. Just eat some food, activate eikhtyr, and run. Smart stamina management and terrain usage are enough 90% of the time. You don't even need clothes for that

Make bed or portal near by, run in naked carrying at least 1 item. Die, rinse repeat and grab newer gravestones for corpse run buff so you can use it to get your proper gear. No skill loss and extra item loss
