[spoilers] Biome 6 - 8 world generation
After flying through the world and exploring as much as I could, I realized that the game generates many biomes that have nothing in them. Those being: Ashlands, Deep North and most recently, the Mistlands. Why do these biomes generate at all if you cannot (really) interact with them? Previously, the Mistlands would be generated the placeholder props like webbed trees and giant skulls, but those have been removed at some point, making that biome a barren surface. The Ashlands do spawn enemies and a type of meteorite ore that as of right now has no crafting recipes tied to it. The Deep North is the opposite of the Ashlands, but it does not have any enemies or new materials to discover.
I'm guessing that these unfinished biomes generate in the world so when an update hits, you do not have to start a new world in order to play the new content as the world likely automatically updates discovered biomes. Is my assumption true, though? And if yes, does this make sense for the players (and developers) to have worlds generate in this way?
Please share your thoughts and opinions, I'm curious.

So a better question to pontificate on is will the mistlands enemies spawn in the old empty explored parts

depends if they're tied to location, if so no, but if they're zone wide spawns, then yes. cause that's the difference between growths and abominations So a better question to pontificate on is will the mistlands enemies spawn in the old empty explored parts

Here's from the FAQ of their official discord: That's an assumption as a full biome load has not happened yet and may actually differ from loading in new poi's. this is going to be a much larger change and may require a different approach to generation. I don't know programming, but saying something as fact when the evidence presented only gives an educated guess is a bit
Will new content be added to my world I currently are playing on?
New content such as tar pits, mountain caves and Mistlands in the future will not appear in areas that have been already generated. Areas are generated 300-500 meters from a player's location. Exploremap and resetmap has no effect.

Ah well there we go, well then hush my mouth apparently mistlands is confirmed to work the same. Well that's gonna be interesting, I'll have a time capsule world of spider forests and dead plains lol Here's from the FAQ of their official discord:

As already stated, new locations and objects will not generate in already generated areas. Areas are generated 300-500 meters from player locations and are tied to the world, not the character. Exploremap and resetmap has no effect.

The thing is you don't know that for certain. They haven't done a full biome load yet, so only the devs can answer this question. You are new here ? That will act like mountain caves and tar pits , will not be there if the place actually was explored, works in the same way , thats why people with old seeds that already have the old mistland placeholder ( big trees and skulls ) explored didnt get changed for the new placeholder Yes we know the poi updates with the explored parts etc, but there is no solid info on what happens to those completely empty biomes if explored. Unless you got a link to a dev or something no one actually knows what will happen map generation wise when mistlands is implemented or any other empty biome for that matter

They said mountain caves would not spawn in areas already explored.

I guess they are just there so the Developer doesn´t have to rework the whole World Generation with every new Biome they add.

It is that way to try to prevent "forced-wipes" when the new biomes are introduced. As mentioned those empty biomes are place holders awaiting updates.
That being said, areas that are EXPLORED (even the empty, unpopulated biomes), will not populate correctly when the biomes are added / updated.... only unexplored areas of the map, hidden by fog-of-war, will successfully update.

Where have you heard that from? Cause as far as I'm aware an empty unpopulated biome has never been introduced yet and therefore the consequences of how they will be affected when the biome is introduced is untested and unknown. The "explored" rule we know for introducing new poi's might be different from a whole biome implementation. It is that way to try to prevent "forced-wipes" when the new biomes are introduced. I believe there was a mention from the devs of unexplored areas will populate with new updates to the map. If explored, no update would happen.
Example would be the update of the Frost caves in the Mountains, if you had been there, no frost caves showed up. Only the unexplored Mountains had the new Frost caves added when update came out.
