Love the game but the one thing that I actually hate...
So NPC's keep thier weapons while in water... I slip am surrounded by leaches and cant use my weapon even though I am only knee deep. I hate that transition out of weapon, and that the enemies all can seem to attack from water, Draugr, dwarfs, not sure about Fulings.. but guessing true for them.

live server and not sure (and do not want my friends to put my head on a pike) how or even if you can implement mods into a server/seed without restarting. My server but my friend has 60+ hours just recently.... I think hes still annoyed I just walked away from Warframe when Tencent acquired it.

At the risk of being off-topic, I would like to ask, "How do you know that monsters that attack you don't use stamina?" Granted, a viking can see a creature's health bar in the user interface and judge their health but how do you know they don't have and use stamina?
Definitely not off topic.
Basically what Mharr said, but more specifically, I quickly jumped out of my karve, swam a bit ashore, ran to the ruined tower to register the location of The Elder boss, then manoeuvred my way back to the shore, swam to my karve, and then while accelerating against the wind with my sails down (one chevron), the swarm of greydwarves with a 1 star greybrute gleefully chased after me. Sorry for the long sentence. I know, bad form. ^_^
Anyway, they managed to swim quite far out while throwing their stones at my boat, damaging it down to about 80%-ish health before I was able to get away. In reverse, if I was in the same place as those monsters with all that swimming and punching I would have done, I think I would have drowned by then. Mind you, my skills weren't topped out. I think my swimming skill was about 10. Not sure how much it makes a difference. Basically, I didn't see any of them drowning or taking damage, other than from the arrows of my bow.
I am legitimately curious as to the 'tone' (as in hint) of your question. Have you experienced swimming monsters taking damage suddenly without any visible cause like being attacked?
To be honest, I "know" that creatures which are not vikings have no stamina in Valheim. I "know" because living, breathing deer can and will swim amazing distances to get away from my viking or other natural enemies with no apparent ill effects.
On another level, I "know" creatures other than vikings do not use the stamina mechanic because if they did, the requisite computations would overwhelm my upper low-level (or lower mid-level) gaming laptop. I suspect I could not afford a computer capable of handling a large pack of greydwarves, or wolves, or fulings each with it's own stamina to keep updated.
I suppose the point is to be careful of what you ask for; you just might get it.

Combat could use some work. This is an instance where some minor/modest changes would be nice.
Basically, combat works but it could be better in a number of ways that don't seem too difficult to code. Now, much better would take some coding effort. I would enjoy it though, little bit better responsiveness, better AI, maybe a 3rd attack type, mobs with more abilities, a way to set difficulty, etc., and as OP points out, more sensible water combat mechanics.

Yeah, I would just make this slightly less sensitive so you only unequip when fully into the swimming animation, not the instant a small wave washes past. So I am suggesting adjust the depth at where the weapons get put away.

Agree about the swimming weapons usage discrepancy. Also, monsters that attack you don't use stamina which they should.

I hope they update swimming in general so that we can go underwater, use any weapon or tool freely while in water, jump out of water better, and other water-related things so that it doesn't feel like i'm being pulled into quicksand.

Interesting topic, I think they should be categorised into types.
Undead - They are supernatural so stamina is not really and issue, they are dead, not going to get tired, so swimming they do not need stamina.
Living/breathing types - should have stamina at least for swimming, they already have pseudo stamina in their attack speed, otherwise you would get attacked a lot at start and then they pause. Instead the mobs can be adjusted by attacks per time for difficulty and not need to calculate stamina per se.
Viking - it is a annoying to have weapons pocketed when wading, maybe it needs a slight adjustment rather than allowing drawn weapons while swimming. Maybe can draw a knife when "treading water" rather than swimming. Though you should try swimming while holding a couple kg of weights and see how get on. So I am suggesting adjust the depth at where the weapons get put away.

They could at least allow the knives, yes. But still it all falls down to learning and being super careful.

Oh, we (@GinsengSamurai and I) know the game. We don't complain about it being super hard. It's just annoying that we cannot use our weapon (at least the knife or something not to unwieldy) while in water. It happens so quickly.
Or at least auto-equip the weapon again, when getting out of it. This is just very annoying and not a game changer.

i make a point of punching my enemies -- heaps all the time,, obviously the easy ones and that skill gains so I try to get this up fast.
Great pleasure punching out the lesser enemies and comes in handy in the water and when getting your gear back after death.
Also you don't lose you weapons at knee deep , a little further in then lose them yet this is a help as i think if people insist on keeping their weapons when swimming then you should sink and drown until you disarm yourself. ie how i see it lucky for you all this doesn't happen.

Agree. I might be able to understand it, if you could keep your weapon while in water, but you have a stamina penalty, so you use more than usual, but let me keep my weapon ready, so I can defend myself.
And enemies should use stamina as well. Absolutely agree.
