just plan your base/outpost ahead. near copper and water is always a good choice so you can get upto that level of progression and venture out in your ship(s), that the way the devs intended the game. all ships have a storage compartment to store goods. possibly even mats for a portal to get home quickly to repair your stuff on the fly if needed

While the advice above is good ... my tip is just simply take your time and enjoy.
There is no timer, no race, no penalty for taking your time.
Of course if you enjoy the rush and wish to race to end, that is your choice, there is a near endless number of worlds and characters you can make, delete and work on.

I love the relaxing collecting of items, the crafting and base building. And I enjoy the absolute outstanding atmosphere of this game and this unbelievable big adventure. Thats all I need for loving this game. :-)

Awesome fun single player. I play in vr and man, my play style is pretty wimpy compared to m/kb play cuz it's frickin scary. This game is absolutely amazing in vr with hd texture mod.

This is why it's good to build near a few copper veins and if possible near the shoreline with some tin + future boating. Just need to manipulate the terrain a bit to make it impossible for enemies to attack you except perhaps the odd troll in which case you'd want to fight them outside your base.

Then when you find a decent swamp - set up a small base on a sunken crypt for iron. Mountain you can either set up the base on the mountain or near the base of it in which case you'd want to run down minerals + use portals to get back up. Maybe even use a cart with some decent pathing.

The game is absolute fantastic! So beautyful, I love it

Do not land a boat in a swamp, especially not at night. Land in a meadows or black forest and walk in. Stay away from brown grass and red flowers. Many of the posts from people who hit a roadblock in the game landed a boat in the swamp or sailed too close to the Plains.

Is the game good for single player? imo yes, if you enjoy building bases or cities. Once you have completed the game via killed all the bosses, not much in the way of extra stuffs to do other then treating the game like Viking minecraft ha.

This is not correct. The worlds are randomly generated. You can start over with a new character and, try out different weapons and equipment (styles of play) in a new (and unknown to you) world. If that isn't enough, there are at least three 'challenge' modes of play - permadeath (self imposed); no portals (/noportals command) and no map (/nomap command).

Beyond that there are various mods which may add more challenge. I'm at over 1000 hours of real time game play with numerous worlds and characters, I still find it quite fun and interesting without becoming a 'builder' or playing 'Viking minecraft'.

Valheim is more than just a 'play once and beat' through a single track progression of bosses game, it is also a sandbox. Those with an ounce of imagination will find it endlessly entertainning.

PS: I play almost exclusively solo.
