There is no fight when shooting deathsquittos, one shot, dead mosquito
You can also kite the skeeter away from the surtling or make yourself an attack/defense position with your pick ax and hoe, nothing can hit you if you duck and then pop up to shoot

Use the large rocks that are scattered around the plains. You can jump onto them, but fulings cannot. Usually. If they can, find another rock. Find rock near village. Kite Fulings to rock. Plink away from up on top of the rock. Lather, rinse, repeat. In your case, fight deathsquitos on top of rock first. Then plink away. Works on Loxes too, but they can damage the rock, so be careful.
