Steam Deck
Works and looks great on Steam Deck. Controls are something you'll need to get used to, especially if you played mainly with kb/mouse on the actual PC, but they do work.

Hello,
To use console commands you need to add "-console" to the game launch options in Steam. To open the console you need to press both joysticks at once starting from either left or right joystick, one opens the console, the other the debug menu with FPS, ping and number of instances whatever that means.
The game is rated Verified but to be frank it shouldnt have it. The performance is not good enough. It might be very early game but that's all. Lag in combat as you progress is very common and even more so as you build your base. I'm at Mistlands and after some time no matter where I go in Mistlands I end up getting as low as 5-8fps and it's not changing until I reboot the game and then I walk around for few minutes and back at it again.
So there's definitely plenty of performance bugs, Valheim is known for that honestly now and Steam Deck is not an overpowered devices it just makes every performance issue so evident that it's not possible to ignore or miss.
The controller bindings are not very ergonomic I will say but I've played almost 200h with them still. They could be much much better, especially you can't quickly switch or activate stuff in your hotbar, like potions etc. on the default config. You can do without as I did but I imagine it wouldve saved me plenty of deaths being able to do things without standing still opening my inventory..
It honestly looks like Steam Deck "Verified" was half assed, because like when you want to chat it opens a text input window OUTSIDE of the game, same thing for naming portals etc. It's quite ugly in various places like that.

Game play > graphics 24/7/365.Depends on what you think qualifies as a potato game. My opinion any game that can run at the standards on 5-8 year old tech is a potato game and one that isnt graphically impressive. But you do you. Hardly a potato game, but you do you.
A game with amazing graphics, but dog turd gameplay is a potato game too.
The graphics in Valheim while yes, they look like Super Nintendo in some places, the environments make that melt away. The gameplay/mechanics tends to also make you not pay as much attention to the graphics.
Glad to hear it runs well in the Deck though. Was seriously considering getting one.

It can be made to run on potato, but only with performance mods. Not much fun on old hardware in its vanilla state.

Did they do an update or something? Last I read from someone posting here it was pretty bad. Not sure what they were trying to build but FPS issues big time reportedly.
IDK myself but I am interested in how it is performing as I may consider a purchase of the deck.

Valheim uses state of the art effects and raycasting. They can get modern computers starting to sweat if you crank them all up.
Hardly "potato game". Just because the graphics itself are a certain style, doesn't mean the game can't be demanding. Especially when it is relatively unoptimized due to still being in development.
Edit: Try turning all the effects off and then look at it. Quite primitive, and will run well on older hardware. Crank all the effects up and even better GPUs will start running hot.
