I just tried middle mouse button on map screen and it pings ok for me. It can also be seen in the 3D world for a bit. Does your mouse wheel click function work in other apps ?

there were people who reported similar problems in the past

usually it was cause by the fact that some programs were hijacking button input and game didn't receive it (just disable those programs)or try shift+button or ctrl+button or alt+button, some programs don't hijack button if you use it together with those or other button
or there was controlled bugging inputs connected
or they rebinded and forgot button
or simply button was broken

The middle mouse button works in other programs. I'll try a different mouse tomorrow and see if that works.

On my PC the middle mouse won't ping either. However on all of my kids PC's it works. I have yet to figure out what's different.

With default controls Ping, Secondary Attack and Deconstruct don't work. I remapped Secondary Attack and Deconstruct to a side button. My middle mouse however works in other games and programs.

I also noticed it calls my side button Mouse3, and the default name for middle button in the game is Mouse-3 with the dash. Probably not an issue.

If the Ping command was configurable that would help for people who's middle button won't work with this game.

Edit: I do think it's probably something weird with my mouse, but can't figure out why it works in many other programs. But not some.

Edit 2: Actually all this post except having ping reconfigurable can be ignored... Sorry. It seems my middle mouse button has finally completely died. :(

Like Shaman said, you need to have the map open to ping. It doesn't ping with it closed. Have you tried it with the map open?

Do you have to have share location checked for ping to work? I've never had problems

I've noticed and experienced all of this. I also had to remap the controls to use those functions. My side mouse button also works in this and other games. I also noticed and thought the slot for mouse 3 being named that was odd. Didn't think anything of it though. I just remapped that to the side mouse button. Even when clicking the side mouse button, with the map open, no ping.

@AllOutWar76 Of course I also tried the middle mouse button with the map open.

Similar to @Dialtone here I think my middle mouse button is either almost dead or is dead. If and when I update my hardware, I'll update ya'll with the result.

I've seen a ping from a friend with the box for shared location off. I've also seen it with it on. Pretty sure its my mouse.

I have changed what key I use for push-to-talk in Steam chat settings, but Valheim just doesn't want to use my middle mouse button any longer for any task. Re-binding the secondary attack and deconstruct keys worked for these tasks, but map pings are still impossible.

Tried a reset to default?
Tried a file verify?
Library - game - right click game name for Properties - Local files - verify

Running mods?
Have a controller plugged in?
Anything else might be hijacking the middle mouse?
