Question about base building
Hi,
So I noticed you can eventually build with stone.
Assuming I build a base out of wood. How does it work afterwords when I unlock stone building. Can you upgrade to stone or do you essentially have to rebuild?
Just wondering if I build something decent but not too complex before unlocking stone as I might have to start over once stone is unlocked.
Thanks!

Lots of great feedback here. Thanks!
I've decided to hold off on complex constructions as I will definitely want to primarily build with stone (at least for my main base).
Really interesting builds. I like how you've combined both materials together.

I mix stone with wood as well. It gives a nice, homey look. I use core wood sparingly, as it is a bit too "rustic" for me, unless I build a log cabin in the Black Forest.
What I did with my main base was, that I had it built with the short wood poles as stilts and the floor elements on top of it. I removed the floor and put stone floor beneath it, then put the wood floor back on. You don't see it from the inside, but you can see the stone floor at the bottom of the wall from the outside, which makes for a nice look.
My later builds all involved a mix of wood and stone.
Edit: Here are a few pictures.

I was building a wooden building & then I unlocked stone and am slowly trying to incorporate it into my build, not understanding snapping, placement and 'distortion connections'; I pretty much need to destroy and rebuild what I did yesterday.
I recommend simply building a new base rather than renovating.

@Happy,
that reminds me that I added a stone chimney to my main base, once I learned stone. Other than that, I didn't change it except for the floor.
Right now, I'm trying to build something like a tavern at a peculiar spot. It is on a small meadow patch that borders straight to the Black Forest on one side and an even smaller Plains spot on the other. In the north it borders both to swamp and mountains (where Moder lives).
I often find the poor Neck being slaughtered by a heard of Lox which roam nearby, or by Deathsquitos, or by skellies, or by Greydwarfs... and so on and on. Every once in a while a get a visit from a stray Draugr...

Suppose it kind of depends on what you want to build with the stone pieces when you unlock them.... I sometimes find some applications for stone features for an older build, (like building a nice hearth or adding a stone path) but, if I have a specific build in mind, or find a new location good for building on, I tend to stick to starting a new build all together usually.

It's not like Ark where you can just upgrade a part. You remove it, put the new part in to make upgrades, or simply rebuild.

I love the rustic look...it feels more "viking". It's costly, though. Nice work on your builds! I mix stone with wood as well. It gives a nice, homey look. I use core wood sparingly, as it is a bit too "rustic" for me, unless I build a log cabin in the Black Forest.

Using these dimensions as a guide if you "Overbuild" your wooden structure to accomodate future stone "inside the wooden frame..pieces latch a lot easier especially wall wood "squares" which are half the size of the larger stone wall piece Support is very different as well. Stone can support a lot of wood, but wood cannot support a lot of stone (maybe one piece here and there, but it fails quickly). Core wood will do a little better, of course. Iron wood beams are more iron than wood in terms of support, and you can hang a big rock between a couple way up in the air if you want.
To build big with stone, you will need a lot of iron for those beams.
stone pieces are a full unit wide. Even the floor pieces are 1 unit thick. This is in 1x1 wood floor tile units.

Stone pieces have entirely different dimensions than wood pieces, so you have to either rebuild or remodel.

I usually begin with wood and intertwine stone later on in places such as the floor, columns, the corners of my buildings and also a nice hearth for cooking the good meats. :)

This is how I do it too. I actually like the look that wood construction offers. Specifically, I build almost all my builds out of core wood with stone and wood iron support. I usually begin with wood and intertwine stone later on in places such as the floor, columns, the corners of my buildings and also a nice hearth for cooking the good meats. :)
