Help with horrible framerate
I just got this and with all the graphics settings either off or set to the lowest setting there is, I'm struggling to get more than 27-33 fps.
I have an RTX 2060 gpu.
any tips or should I just give up and refund it?

Show us the rest from your system, only the graphiccard says absolutly nothing about the power of your system.

That's true. I picked out my laptop specifically to run high end survival and crafting games, and in the majority of those CPU power matters more than GPU power. So that RTX 2060M is paired to a Ryzen i9 9900k Show us the rest from your system, only the graphiccard says absolutly nothing about the power of your system.

I'm sorry, do genuinely recommend a drive format and complete windows re-installation as an "easier" fix than a fresh driver installation using a DDU? Nvidea put out a bad driver a while back that seems to have corrupted dx11 files.
To fix it you have to do some drastic stuff. People were saying to use third party programs etc but the easiest fix is probably to reformat the drive and reinstall windows.
Not sure if this game will work under open GL or DX 12 but you can try those launch options in steam to see if it helps.

This CPU is unknown... Ryzen = AMD .... I9 9900K = Intel
Ryzen I9 9900k doesn't exist.

If you have enough free RAM the game should be playable with high settings.

But there are a few more things which can get by to a bad performance.
Get the system enough air to breath? Is the power adapter strong enough to get all the components inside under voltage.
It is a laptop of course it should the power adapter should be strong enough, but some people build a desktop pc with an 350W power adapter and then they wondered why the system doesn't runs.

Did you try running with Vulkan? While it causes problems for some others can gain even a tremendous increase in fps.

Valheim doesnt take up much space on your hard drive, and it looks beautiful with its graphics, however, due to the game being in Early Access it is pretty unoptimized. The devs have tried to curtail this to some extent, but the fact remains that Valheim attempts to use as much power as your computer can muster. It is recommended that if you cant get it to work with something like Vulkan to simply refund it and wait a year or two when its presumably forecast to leave EA, and coincidentally get some optimization done. Vulkan, if you need to play now, I hear has better performance, presumably at the cost of stability.
This game is made on Unity, and as such some crashes you may experience may not be fixable by the devteam.

I also have an RTX 2060 M and this game runs very smoothly for me on low graphics. You might want to consider reformatting your HD. Had some issues a while back with my laptop performing way worse than it's specs would suggest and reformatting fixed it.

I don't even feel any lag ever unless the game is saving, I have a 2070. I recommend moving your game to an SSD or fast USB. Also try Vulkan to see if that helps. Otherwise you might want to use task manager to clear any background apps.

Keep task manager open while you play the game. You can switch to it and see what's causing the problem - is your CPU at 100 and your GPU at 0%? Is your GPU at 100% and your CPU at 100%? Is your hard drive at 100%? Are your CPU and GPU both at 50%? Your GPU should be at 100% and your CPU should be below 100%.
Report back and let us know where the problem is located, and we'll go from there.
