Solo play, single player?

The store page recommends 3-5 people to play with.

I just found out about that VR mod and I was wondering how good this is to play SOLO?

Thank you

How much content is in this game at it's current state. Especially for someone who wants to solo it? Like is this the kind of game so far that you beat in 10 hours

There is plenty of content for a couple of hundred hours of entertaining play, but if you wanted to rush it and spoil the fun, I guess you might be able to at least kill the current 5 bosses within 60 hours or so, if you knew what you were doing and were lucky with world seed generation... but you'd be missing out on a lot of what the game has to offer besides bosses ;)

With the upcoming changes with the ROADmap, and the major update coming in over Quater 3rd 2021 [citation needed]. People have been playing the same content that was given on early access release. Oh, and take your time build projects, have fun, explore. It's boring to try and steamroll everything and leave it in the digital dusty shelf. Watch a few review videos, if you're not sure about it from the comments here.

Yeah I wasn't the type to rush any game, I'm usually the person trying to experience and collect everything my first go.

I just don't want a Space Engineers repeat where it's a nice put together world but not really fun without other people and the enemy is lackluster

I have 260 hours so far, and I just participated in fighting the fourth boss about a week ago.

It's a game that you can very much play at your own pace, find your own enjoyment, make your own projects and stuff.

That said, the devs seem to have decided to just start changing the game willy-nilly and do stuff nobody asked for while ignoring or at least not publicly acknowledging that some parts of the game need some serious attention. The latest patch probably added about 20-25% more suck than it had before, again, which nobody was asking for.

My take on the "bosses:" The first one is a challenge if you don't find ways to up-gear yourself, but once you have good first-ish tier gear and are handy with how weapons and stamina work, it's a fun solo. Not too hard, not a cakewalk. The second one's logic is...dumb, and he's pretty easy to solo it just takes a while by yourself. The third one is a
MASSIVE challenge increase for a few reasons that I'll go into if you ask but I don't want to give away too much. You could solo it if you have spent a LOT of time upping your gear, upping your food, and preparing. I'm sure there's tricks and stuff, but I don't know them as I've only ever fought him in a party. The fourth goes back to the logic of the second a little. She's a challenge, but if you prepare, know your gear, etc. you can do it.

Now, my biggest peeve about the game as it is right now is that the mobs have terrible logic, and several aspects of their implementation is just crap. Again, I don't want to spoil a lot here, but just know that you're going to be frustrated by the mobs in this game, and not always in a good way. I.e. the first tier mobs are absolutely nothing but a nuisance once you have up-tiered your gear somewhat, but instead of them having logic which would have them do something intelligent, like stay away, they constantly harass you. They can't really hurt you, but they interrupt what you're doing and it's just annoying. They raid your base constantly, which some people enjoy and I just find to be so annoying that my server has raids modded out.

All that said, again, I have coming up on 300 hours and I love the game. I hope the devs can hear the feedback, and I really hope they can figure out how a software development company is supposed to grow and evolve properly instead of just continuing to trickle out stupid changes that nobody wanted, but I love the game.

If the idea that one day you may just want to play in your garden and make food all day, another day you want to go berry picking and explore, and another day you want to challenge yourself with a boss solo sounds good to you, get the game right meow.

Heh, well, it's nothing like Space Engineers (thank Odin!) ;)
It can still be a lot of fun solo and it can be fun to play with friends. Playing with friends will definitely make it an easier game too and make for a little less grind.
It really isn't a very hard game to play and there's more challenge to actually locate some of the bosses than killing them, which only requires good thought & preparation.
The thing about this game that will keep you playing IMO is the beauty of it and the freedom you have to build ;)

Can confirm, solo is a lot of fun. First playthrough was done with friends, but having just as much fun solo as you can completely focus on what you want instead of the group.

I'm a challenge runner myself in games which most people find tedious and boring, so i can now focus on that stuff.

Of my 163 hours logged I would guess that the last 150 hours have been entirely solo. While group play was fun, I got turned off by the fact that more 'active' players would routinely clean out local dungeons and areas, pretty much forcing me to play away from the group if I wanted specific resources at times, so I spun up my own server and have been on it ever since. Just be mindful of where you're going and what time of day it is and you should be good. Also, I watched a few boss fight vids to prep and they all went fine.

You can have a bunch of fun playing solo. Much better to play with a few friends.

My advice would be to read/watch as little about the game as possible. Nothing at all if possible.

You will discover a lot of really cool surprises.

360+ hours played solo and no multiplayer necessary at all to enjoy and succeed with this game... no VR needed either and while I can imagine that might be fun in the exploration and fighting action, it would be an hindrance with building.

Solo is just as much fun imo, sure it is somewhat "different" having someone else there however I always have a solo world separate from a co-op in these type of games so I get the best of both worlds. Man......how relevant was that saying? lol
