Agreed. I feel like it's kinda antithetical for a spear's primary attack to be short in its range when the spear is the last weapon that should be lacking in range. Like, why strike at such a steep angle that butchers the main advantage of your weapon? That's like wielding a sword and striking with everything but the blade.

I love spears but I found it strange that the attack hitbox is as large as a small dagger. Also no actual attack pattern, just stab stab like a harpoon or fork.

You can actually parry/stagger and use the sword secondary attack on a stone golem using all bronze gear. At least the pointy hand ones. The one with cube hands seems to be harder for some reason.

I play with sword/spear and no bow myself.
Spear is highly underrated, but needs a bit of experience/skill to know when and how best to throw it.

Also, you can easily defeat Bonemass with a high sword skill. Most difficult enemy without Mace is the Stone Golem, in fact I use the pickaxe on him.

i suggest just using atgeirs for a while because of their aoe stagger that decimates things like wolves

When I first got the spear, I loved it. But then I kept using it and started hating it. If there's slight elevation difference between you and your target, you miss.

Spears are the best weapon in this game that I have ever used. Highest dps, highest defensive capabilities (block speed after swing is quick), and they can be thrown to stagger enemies. Spears are OP.

I just like spears.

Friends thought it silly me hitting skeles with it but eventually they started wondering how I was killing so constantly.

Before we knew it my weapon lvl in spear was 80+ while everyone else was at 40-50. I had considered resistant enemies free training.

I miss my crew

Because you can throw the spear at Point Blank and have it almost always auto picks up again, its about the only weapons that gets over the damn height hit box issue on the mountain slopes!

It hasn't changed. You can use it to poke at one or several opponents at a time, within a small hitbox, to do additional damage with the secondary attack and instantly recover it, or throw it at a distance.

The fandom site has all stats about new weapons as well.
