New question
How much of the fenris armor does one have to wear to get the fire resistance buff?

You're right--it doesn't show for Wolf chest piece. That's odd and is probably something that should be corrected by the devs eventually.

Root armor is weak to fire. Fenris armor has fire resist. So you're saying that a full set of wood is the best option against Yaggieboy? that's a bit counter intuitive, nice one dev's
If you want the best plan for defeating Yagluth, you want maxed out padded armor and a fire resist potion.

Ok, so I figured out why I thought that. Damage modifier on the root mask is placed up with other stats of the mask, then space, then set bonus. On the Fenris set the damage modifier is put below the set bonus so refers to the set bonus, not the piece. I think that was a poor choice of wording if it really just explains the bonus and should be incorporated into the definition of the set bonus. That's my excuse and I'm stickin to it.

If you have the hood, just put it on--do you now see fire resist among your buffs? If not, then you need the whole set.
Wolf armor is similar, except that only the chest piece is needed for frost resist. Don't have to wear all 3 pieces to get frost resist, just the chest piece.
If fire resist is what you want to handle Gjall (or Yagluth's fire dmg) then using a fire resist potion is the better option. Easy to make, take one as needed, which allows you to stay geared up in the stronger armor (fully upgraded padded armor, primarily).

That would be a more reliable method if the bonuses consistently actually showed up in the buff list. If you have the hood, just put it on--do you now see fire resist among your buffs? If not, then you need the whole set.
The root helmet doesn't have the poison resist show up anywhere for me, but I know it's working. Same with the Wolf Armor frost resist. It's not showing in my buff list, but I know it's working, because I don't freeze in the mountains.

You open the menu and look at the active buffs? It should show it if you have it. I can double-check later to see but thought it showed up on the buffs page.

Some effects won't show up in the active effects list but will still work.
If an effect is listed under the set effects, it's only available with the set. If it's listed above set benefits, it's available with just that one piece.

Yah, I'm aware of that being where I can look for status effects, but the two I mentioned don't show up there. You open the menu and look at the active buffs? It should show it if you have it. I can double-check later to see but thought it showed up on the buffs page.
I don't have the hood with the fire resist, so I don't know if that is the same...but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it might be, given that it is along the same lines as the two I mentioned.

You can wear the hood. It has a piece bonus for fire resistance. The way it is set up, it's a bit hard to understand. It should just say "Piece Bonus:" and what it is. Leads folks to believe they have to wear all 3 pcs to get it as is currently called "Damage Modifier" for the single item.

https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Fenris_Set#1
Each piece gives you a speed boost of 3%, it is additive.
The coat gives you resistant vs frost
Wearing the entire set gives you +15 Fists, +9% speed, Resistance to Fire and Frost.
Set bonuses in ALL games work this way, you wear the whole set to get the set bonuses.

Is that accurate? The wiki says the fire resistance is ONLY for a set bonus, not just for the hood. It's not listed for the hood at all.
I'm currently just a few hours into starting the Mountain biome, and making decisions of which armor pieces to craft as I get materials and I think my plan is to go with a mix of the Fenris and Wolf Armor, so knowing 'for sure' what the (non-set) bonuses for each piece is useful for me as I plan out the first use of resources.

Just checked it now to be sure: You must wear all 3 pieces to get the fire resistance buff. The headpiece alone has no special bonuses on it except for the 3% speed buff.
Foxglovez is mistaken in their understanding of the wording on the tooltip.

Thanks for the quick response! I have not found any cultists yet, so didn't even have the recipe unlocked to look at it. Just checked it now to be sure: You must wear all 3 pieces to get the fire resistance buff. The headpiece alone has no special bonuses on it except for the 3% speed buff.
