Hah very true. I've only tapped out of 1 seed so far, couldn't find a base spot I liked. I ended up looking at the seed generator and saw very few meadows, and the ones it had were very small and not good base locations. Lots of awkwardly shaped landmasses making it difficult to travel, and ridiculous amounts of plains and swamp. It was the most challenging map I've seen.

Seed was ToxicAvenge if anyone is up for the challenge.

I've never seen a crypt on a strip of swamp, no matter how long.

No, this is not a bug, you have farmed it over ans you need a new isle.

Black forests seem to have a consistent spawn of crypts/dungeons, but swamps do not.
Find new swamps and you are sure to find some sooner or later.

In my map 1/3 of the swamps have either no crypts at all, or just 1-2.

The very first two crypts I located were in the swamps, like they should be, but were underwater. A tiny flicker of green flame sticking out of the water.

I sailed right on by...

It's normal. In our last seed we have several swamps without a single crypt, but we have also found a few swamps of similar size with 'standard' 5-8 crypts per swamp area. Quite unlucky, because I remember better seeds, but You are probably more unlucky than we are ;).

I think the game favors larger more square swamps for crypts than long skinny ones, as most swamps I’ve seen that contain crypts are large in both directions and often contain a lot of crypts, not just 1 or 2.

Try going with your boat south of that island and i am sure you will find more swamp.

Also if there is a mountain next to swamp, they generaly dont spawn. At least i havet seen a single one in that situation.

But before you do that, run araund whole island and see if there is more swamp down there.

I would call that good luck early on. Easy to explore swamps for upgraded food/crafting items and potions.

But yeah those are kind of smaller sized ones. Looks like the map is zoomed in pretty close there.

Yea I've done both, either intentionally gaming the system or trying to play by how I imagine dvoid would like us to.

Answer to OP: it's bad RNG, but if you don't want to continue exploring then just look up a good seed.

Bad luck - I've had crypts in a tiny patches of swamps and nothing but decripit woods in large patches.
It's normal with randomized world seeds, just keep searching :)

2 of the 3 visible swamps shown are on the smaller side, so it's not surprising that they don't have much in them. That southern area looks pretty big though... I've seen large swamps without crypts but it's unusual.

I'd say sail out a bit and find more swamps. If you think it might be bugged, plug your map seed into one of the map generator sites and see what it shows. Or if you don't want to spoil the exploration, share your seed here and somebody can verify or even give hints.

I would say that it's bad lack. In my previous playthrough I also spawned in a world where tombs had no surtling cores so I struggled for a while. I didn't even have enough to make 1 charcoal kiln or smelter. It happens 😓
