If you want to try playing with some settings right click on your desktop > NVIDIA control panel, scroll to 3D programs and add the game. Should let you set some GPU options, maybe get a few more frames this way, honestly i haven't had to try yet, no promises.

Off hand i'd set OpenGLRendering to my dedicated GPU, set power to max performance and see how it ran to start.

The gtx 960m was a mid-range budget chip when it came out 6 years ago, and it's very much low end now. It has worse performance than the gtx 950, the bare minimum requirement for Valheim, and well below the recommended.
The Witcher 3 is a 6 year old game with much lower requirements because Valheim is much more demanding due to all its lighting related effects.

Very true. This game requires video optimisations. My second complaint after the bad network code.

My son has an i5 2600, gtx970, 8gb Ram and runs the game off an ssd. He consistently gets 40 - 75 fps, the only time he had trouble was before the optimisation of the ground leveling tool.

I suggest checking your drivers and run it with vulkan, upgrade to an ssd and increase your ram.

the gtx960 needs to be replaced asap though they were absolutely terrible and performance on them was about 20% lower than the gtx950.

I think it's the open-world part of it. And the amount of trees that need to load and all that. This game forced me to re apply thermal grease inside my laptop because it actually overheated to the point where it just shut itself off. my temps are more stable now but I still dont get more than 50 fps on lowest settings.

It is not potato graphics. All those shaders are the very opposition to "potato".
Amount of polygons means almost nothing, nowadays.

Here is my potato PC specs i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2601 Mhz NVIDIA GTX 960M, with this computer i finished Witcher 3 in high settings and my question was never about if my pc specs are enough for this game. For a 500 MB game with 2000's graphics + a bit of wind and particle effects nearly no pc needs to have any problems. I am not trying to insult the game but Valheim offers gameplay over graphics and it is good as it is.

I believe game has obvious optimization issues on some setups but mostly on games like these there is some tweaks to improve them somehow. For example changing 2 lines on game's boot folder, setting high priority on command prompt and adjusting its launch settings from steam options gave it some FPS boost and i am playing it on good FPS but still soon as any weather effect comes or you re chasing smt fps can go back to 20-30 which is not acceptable on this game. There is for sure some additional tweaks like these to grant better FPS and that is my question.

Also next time you are writing any replies to people you don't know try to be a little bit smarter and don't refer them as ''Kid''. Being impolite for no reason would just show your immaturity and nothing else.

Well when i started the game i was around i was around 20 FPS and it was unplayable, as game is not strong on graphical side i checked if there is some ways to boost fps as it looks game is not optimized for some setups well enough. In one recommendation it was saying to add 2 lines to game's boot folder, adjust steam launch line and set high priority on command center. This gave me around 60-75 fps but soon as some shadows come into play or i run for smt fps can go back to stone age. im curious if there is some more ways to improve graphics like these. Also i just have my house and some walls around it quite small base.

I get 110-120 FPS outside of building areas ad 50-75 FPS at my base.
