Question about tamed animals.
Hey, me again, sorry to ask yet another question.
Boars. I'm running sorta low on meat. I've been wondering, do animals continue to breed and stuff "off-screen"? Like, my new house is in a.. fairly distant area, and I'm wondering if I feed them and wait around a bit will piglets be born later? Or do I have to be there for that entire process?

They won't breed while you are away, only when you are in close proximity to them. To answer this directly: If you have a boar pen set up at a farm at your house in the same dwelling, and you feed them, wait a few minutes for them to breed & they will produce at least 2 piggies, or sometimes 3, but depends on space of their enclosure, not frightened, eaten, etc. Hey, me again, sorry to ask yet another question.

There has to be at least 2 adult Boars eating & being in very close proximity to each other to breed, (you could seperate them from the others with roundpole fences) and also not too many other boars in the same space (5 meters i think is the distance) otherwise they will eat & mate but won't breed if it gets too crowded. Same rule applies to other tames, except Lox I think need even more room.
Having a remote breeder/pen also helps keep them in the same spot, so you can go to the pen any time you like to cull them for Boar Meat & Leather Scraps, and feed them at the same time. They are difficult to transport by boat so whatever landmass you find them on I would strongly advise to staying on the same landmass & setting up shop there.
They can be relocated on land however, with the harpoon & FF turned on so you can drag them to where you need if this is the case. (I do this as it can be beneficial to have multiple breeding areas, in case of raids) Some later raids can & will target your tames if they don't have a direct bead on you, so breeding a remote farm is advisable somewhat, especially given the rarity of 1 & 2 star boars spawn frequency...

Just to note, this is not the case with any tames. Workbenches are irrelevant. Proximity to your avatar is what matters. i think it was noted that you have to be within the radius of their active workbench for them to breed and be active otherwise they're just stuck in a limbo until you return.

Yeah, you just have to be within game loading distance. You can walk around, chop trees or whatever. You don't have to stand right next to them. If you can see them walking around, that's close enough.

Yes. Feed the boars, then harvest your plants, then plant new seeds. By the time you have finished that your boars will have produced offspring. The off spring will grow while you aren't present. It's actually a good idea for your farm to be separate from your 'main' base.
That way your farm is less likely to be raided as no raids/damage will take place
if you're not there. Don't spend a lot of time at your farms; harvest/plant,
butcher some boars and feed them to breed. When they squeal loudly; they've
just birthed a piglet. You can leave then if you wish; whether the piglets grow
while you're not there or achieve full growth when you return is irrelevant;
you'll find boars not piglets.
To be really safe from raids at your farm visit it just after any raid; you have
about 40? minutes in real time before the chance of another raid.
So I do actually have to sit around and wait for them to birth piglets? Ough
Non-pregnant boars check for pregnancy every 30 seconds. Pregnancy lasts 1 minute. Partner check is 3 meters distant. Maximum boars is 5 per 10 meters of space. (Each boar has to have 2 tiles worth of space. A 5x6 pen will hold a maximum of 15 boars.)

It doesn't take very long for the birthing to happen; a matter of minutes
after you feed them and you see the 'hearts' appear. But the boars need to
be close together to breed; you can push them together or maybe place the
food in a corner.
Takes about 2 game days for full growth.
You might as well just shoot every wild boar you see because they respawn anyway.

hmm...
I'm not sure but I think you only need to be there for the feeding/breeding parts.
After that you can leave and come back at any time later and new piglets will be born (this is the part I'm not a 100% sure on).
Then you can leave again for a few days and return - the piglets should be adult boars now.

I kinda think the piglets need to be born before the boars get hungry again the
next morning or you just start over. Feed and breed then birth.

I’m new and also would like an answer on this. Gonna assume you need to be within a certain radius for them to breed, but hopefully I’m wrong.

Looks like your best bet would be to take some time to chill out at the base after looting and exploring.
Craft, update your base, etc. and the animals will breed.
Just make sure they have enough space to roam around and plenty of food.
Edit: btw, any advice on finding and catching a 2 star boar? I imagine they spawn at night only.

I dont think the tier is based on day/night. If I recall, higher tiers spawn chance go up the further and further way you get from the centre of the world.
Also, problem, my only boar farm is at my PREVIOUS house. THe one I dont use anymore :x
