Local / Cloud saves: what am i doing wrong?
So, I was about to enter a tricky place. I logged out, restarted the game, switched to local and then back to cloud on character and map screens, supposedly to create a local save at this point and then, now on Cloud I went into the location and died.
No worries I thought. I logged out switched to Local at character and map and,, it was exactly the same save as the cloud one. equally dead and naked.
Saves in Valheim do my head in. Why on earth was my Local character and map save the same as Cloud save when I switched back to cloud saves before I died?

Thanks, I was doing that in earlier save modes but misunderstood advice given here when they added the local/cloud option. I'll revert to my original manual method as you suggest. "Local"/"Cloud" aren't separate saves, but rather where you want the save for that particular world/character to be kept. Changing your selection moves the data, not copies it. If you want to save-scum like that, you need to keep them on Local and manually make a backup of the relevant files.

if you save to local ,,user/appdata/locallow/irongate/valhiem/worlds_local you should find the dated file of the local save..just jumping between cloud and local will "see" the same file.. but on your HDU the world (and character) files will be there if saved as local
