best thing to do is run down hill and out of the mountains, flat out and deal with the consequences of what you find at the base of the mountain.
But don't feel badly towards the dev , now devs, as you just have to work out how to deal with it.
If you go into the mountains without good weapons and diet you will get killed.
I dont have a problem nor most other players so while I , in a friendly manner, feel your panic and wish you well , the raids are fantastic so you always have to keep your stamina up by advancing slowly, lots of rests, and have your weapons ready but on your back.
Also have a base at the foot of the mountain so you can recover your gear after you are killed.
remember if you have a base in the snow and ice and you havent placed antifreeze potions in your boxes, you wont be able to escape as you will be naked and freeze instantly if you race out

Iron Sledge and enough skill levels in Clubs and you'll love the Hunted event because it's literally free materials throwing themselves at you.

So long as you don't skimp out on your food, gear and skills, being hunted just means getting more wolf jerky. But sometimes it does happen at absolutely bad moment. Fortunately you can yourself influence how common or rare those bad moments are, by being prepared when venturing into the mid game biomes (assuming the missing Mistlands and the two others are the actual end game biomes).

get up high or pull out the pickax quick and dig a pit :)

As stated above, either dig a hole or stand on a rock so you don't get surrounded. Once you learn how to deal with hunted event, you'll appreciate all those wolf skewers conveniently coming to you.

Ya, that sucks but remember, you can always run away. The "hunt" is a circle just like the event raids. Control the location of the encounter, win the fight.

I just run away if I'm not in the mood for one. Otherwise I build my bases to be ready for them, lots of rooftop arrow shooting points.

Play in a group, problem solved.

8-10 wolves? If you get the "You are being Hunted" event that's around 30 wolves. I back up to a rock, activate my Bonemass, raise my shield and hack away at all comers...

Lots of hides, meats, fangs and trophy's.

Wolves like most mobs in the game(sans flyers and slimes) are vertically challenged). Use rocks or build a fast column of earth if you got the mats high enough out of their hitbox range and either shoot them with arrows or iron sledge them. Same method works well against golems too if you do it right.

Once I found a crevice that I could get in that they couldnt and shot them until arrows ran out. I made camp fires over and over again luckily with the mats I had(I didnt have sledge on me). Got them down to a small enough amount I could melee from there with good timing.
