Onions broken?
I've done my research, and gone into many previously unexplored buildings with chests in the mountains.
Probably looked through about 20 chests, not a single onion. I've never used console, but tempted to for these. Are they broken?

You need to go to a mountain biome you never even gotten close to. Not chests you've simply never opened.

Yes, but I've found tar pits and everything else new.

one thing I've read in other posts is that the new content doesn't actually show up in the game unless you go into truly unexplored areas.
Just pushing a bit past your previous edge of exploration isn't enough as the terrain generator does about 500 meters (how do you messure that anyway?) past the edge of your minimap.
I've dropped a marker on my map and walked out just 30 meters (edge of workbench radius) and dropped another marker. It covers more distance on the map than I expected so getting a half klick past the edge of my explored area is going to be a hike and a half.

Yeah, read that too. I went into new mountain biomes, a few in fact. It's how I found tar in the plains, though that was on one I'd been on but not fully explored. It's why I'm wondering if onions are broken. one thing I've read in other posts is that the new content doesn't actually show up in hte game unless you go into truly unexplored areas. just pushing a bit past your previous edge of exploration isn't enough, you need to go at least 500 meters (how do you messure that anyway?) for the new stuff to star showing up.

No they are not. But they do not have 100% chance to spawn in chests in mountainsYeah, read that too. I went into new mountain biomes, a few in fact. I understand that. But trying to find out if there's a known glitch before I spend hours finding yet more mountains. No they are not. One issue we are having is that in MOST previously unexplored mountains, and by that I mean we have never even been in the oceans surrounding them, in our old seed, almost every single chest we find, at least 80%, have been completely empty. Combined that with probably a relatively low spawn rate of stone pois, and probably low onion seed spawn rate in chests combined with low spawn rate of loot in general, onions are going to be the hardest cooking items to find.

Just another thing to note the area also has to be unexlpored by other players aswell. so don't know if your exploring in places near other players have been before
