I have tried it yesterday night with 2 pigs and 1 piggy.
It is possible, but if dont want to run over your pig you need to go really slow (like accelerating the 1st speed and stopping).

When you go full speed, by some reason the boar is ran over by the boat, suffer damage and dies. The piggy turn was more efficient but unfortunately a serpent appeared in the way and the piggy disappeared LOL.

So, its possible, but requires a lot of patience, as I dont have for that distance I think better run a wild boar.

I agree with the 'portal to them' where they're tamed, I have and that base just becomes, "HogFarm" on my map; whenever I need fresh boar meat, I just portal in and hang out for a day or so....do some crop tending and raspberry collecting to pass the time.

Moving boars around is a frustrating and time consuming experience, the wolves are much easier and the Lox the best as you simply jump on and just drive them to the desired location.

No, that's precisely why tamed boar need to be located at your most visited site.

I too have a herd of 2* boar that need transporting home, though they're a fair way inland on a distant island, flanked by hilly dark forest on one side, and swamp on the other, so it's going to be quite a task to get them home!

I was putting it off until I'd defeated Moder, to make the sailing portion a little less risky.
Now that's done, the boars are next on my list.

Getting them on the boat is only chapter one of the saga, you've gotta be really careful and lucky with the voyage so they're not thrown overboard by waves, scared overboard by hostiles, or killed outright by a collision with the boat because a greyling threw a rock at the mast or w/e. Try to thread a route that avoids absolutely everything and absolutely don't try it at night.

avoid anything that will aggro the pigs while on the boat and it will work just fine

Use hold shield to push them to the boat. Make a ramp over the boat and then push them over the boat before dismantling the ramp.

Tames are pretty useless as companions since you can't easily move them around unless using a mod. Devs should fix that. Let them easily be taken on boats.

I highly suggest trying with 3-4 boars in case there are casualties at sea.

You can build a new base with a teleport.

Build a "path" of fences leading to the boat with a ramp. And push them on. While they'll move on the boat to the back while you swim, you'll be able to transport them unless you meet serpent and they go hiwire and jump off.

Once you're on the shore, crash land and build a perimeter with fences, then destroy the boat and push them to the desired location.

Or just tame fresh boars.

It's better to already build a low platform and push them on when you arrive.

hmm, never tired that before. Might wanna create an alternate server and test it out with cheats or mods or what have you, you could frontier this idea.

never done it... can't see the point having "pets/tame them"... but what about building a ramp/stairs to easy access the long boat.
