Are you on the public test or the live version? I came to the forums about to ask this exact same question about the public test release. There are an insane amount of enemies to the point it's almost unplayable. I've beaten the live version multiple times so I know what is needed and exactly what to expect but with the public test, something is off. I even tried a different seed and same results. About 5 enemies every few seconds while running around.

Personally used trolls to get resources by having them smash stuff for me before I kill em,they're far more efficient than me at digging/cutting resources anyways.

Guess it might not be the most ethical. =p

Edit addition: Tests having that much of a mess? Sounds interesting, might go try it.

Trolls are themselves resources. Troll hide is good armor, and easy to upgrade with a few kills.

Probably just not experienced. Eat mushroom and berries for more stamina.

Adding to an idea Zep Tepi hit on, if you dig out around a copper vein before you mine it, the ditch will keep trolls and greydwarfs out. They can't jump: if you can walk right up it, so can they, but if you have to jump up, you're safe. That lets you mine the vein in relative safety. (They can still throw rocks, but that's it.) This also helps you see the full extent of the deposit so you don't leave any of it behind.

Player runs into a Biome he's unprepared for. Player doesn't sneak or take his time. He just walks in making noise. Doesn't even see the monsters before they see him. Now the tantrum on the forums. How embarrassing.

If you don't know that you need to clear Trolls and Spawners before harvesting resources - well now you do. Hitting trees and rocks makes a LOT of noise. See you back on the forums when you get to the swamp.

It is fine.

Its the same as always. Greydwarves hate fire so just surround the copper vein with campfires and most of them just run around in panic.

Is there a greydwarf spawner nearby?

Is there a purple glowie nearby? Sounds like you're near a spawner.

Pretty much every biome is like that...until you get a foothold, farm new resources for gear and upgrades. Soon enough you'll just waltz through them.

Go for cores in the burial chamber first. You get a bunch of bones to upgrade your leather armor. I almost always die my first trip in if it has anything other than a basic skelly. But Its a closed area, once you clear it no more surprises.

also make sure you have a bow. trolls are easier early with a bow. just dont get hit bro. campfires keep away the lower level mobs or a torch in the off hand

Try a different section of forest. It might not be as crowded in a different area. Sometimes when I walk through there it seems almost deserted.

Move carefully and listen for the sounds the mobs make. Greydwarves mutter a lot and trolls have a low groan. You can usually hear them before you see them. If you hear fighting noises then the skeletons and greys are fighting each other. (A good clue that there is either a crypt or a tower nearby.)

Don't go in at night. The spawns are more numerous and advanced then.

If you're mining or chopping trees and plan to stay there awhile, dig a pit and bounce them in there with your shield. The don't respawn if they don't die. *Daytime spawns only.

Trolls can't fit through tight spaces and they can't jump. They have to walk around any log that they knock down. They also can't cross steep sided ditches. Use this to slow them down or keep them away from you.
