Iron Battleaxe is poop

Not only is it still disappointing, you don't even get skill increase to your Axe skill for using it.

Big oofs.

It still gives you credit for chopping trees down towards your wood cutting skill. But you get 0 exp for combat hits. Been watching my axe skill forever and it still has not moved.

in the game, you're either chopping wood, or you're breaking skulls.

But in reality, there may be a great skill in using an axe as a weapon and even greater skill in using it as a tool, but you're body is still developing the abiltity to wield said tool/weapon.

So regardless what you're hitting, just the fact you are wielding the same thing that is either a weapon or a tool should improve something that crosses both skill sets.
well there's a skill for all weapons and tools for collecting resources, technically then anything you do could elevate the skill to another skill if it's based off overall strength and technique on lifting and swinging. It just sounds like your but hurt which unfortunately is going to happen alot in this game

Have not tried the battle axe but If its a two handed weapon the skill XP might not be going to the axe skill since they are tracked as one handed weapons in this game,

Try checking the polearm XP.

Checked and neither of them is going up. Haven't used Polearms all game so its still sitting at 0. Axe exp refuses to increase no matter what.

Not sure what causes this bug as one of the above photos shows someone using the Iron Battleaxe and getting the skill increase. Sent in a bug report but we'll see.

Really just want them to make 2 handed axes bearable or at least superior in chopping trees.

Right now the 1 handed axe beats 2 handed ones in tree chopping.

Seems like all the skills take longer to level up now, which is a really bad decision from the dev's considering the skill points barely affect your character, and it's easy to lose skill points by dying. It's Early Access and they made skills harder to level up.. do they want us to experiment with the system? or just suffer? Seriously, i've been in a session for like 2+ weeks, game day 120-ish, doing constant stuff to level up.. all my skills are still floating under 25 with a few exceptions. I have only died once from messing with the new content but that's it.
Parrying an attack no matter how strong gives the EXACT, SAME, EXP as a weak attack.
Jumping from higher heights does absolutely nothing different.
Using stronger tiered weapons does nothing different.
Picking higher tier metals does nothing different.
and as you mentioned, Two handed attacks are even worse across the board.
etc etc etc.

Single handed axe as weapon does good slash but only slash. And its slower than the other SH weapons, so not really first choice, If however, Im chopping trees and a dwarf or board shows up, I just keep chopping, so my axes skill is like 30 something lol
but the 2H axes are weak IMO they are slow, and dont block like a shield/weapon combo.. so no....

Using the battleaxe or the crystal axe is just a poor choice when compared to a silver shield and X silver-tier weapon. That's not even mentioning the absolute gutter-tier weapons that are the 'two-handed clubs'. Those two-handed clubs are laughably slow, don't scale well in this game in the slightest, and use too much stamina to ever fit the niche of an AoE damage dealer.

At best you're putting yourself at a disadvantage compared to 1-handed weapons + Shield and at worst you pretty much cannot fight certain monsters. Very disappointing after reading that they wanted to balance the weapons so that you can 'main' any of them! I guess they forgot about the two-handers haha.
Sledge and atgeir dont have that problem , these 2 are usefull and now buffed if u want to try parry something with them , sledge have normal attack speed like a normal axe plus the area push if u spam attack and go a little back enemies cant touch u , atgeir have very good attack speed ,damage and area attack but eats more stamina than sledge
If you try to use a high tier weapon with 0 skill in it , well its your fault not of the weapon
I crush wolves and fulings with my iron sledge with lvl 97 blunt skill xD , but used it since lvl 30 +

To be honest, i was a bit dissapointed too with the 2H axes, the increase in damage is a bit low while loosing attack speed, walking speed and the ability to carry a shield... BUT the 2H iron hammer is for me one of the best weapons in game. There's no way i'll go into the swamps without it, and when playing in team, i still use it in the plains. I wish they'd add a cristal 2H hammer, cause i really like the looks of the cristal axe.
Still gonna try using the 2h axe and see if it can be viable with higher skill levels.

If they could marry double handed weapons with a strength skill to make swinging an axe easier and faster would be nice.

The more you use a double handed weapon, physically, the stronger you get, the more able you are to wield that weapon and the more skilled you are at managing your stamina.

As many tools double as weapons in real life anyway, ANY double use weapons use should count as a skill increase on the that weapon type.

Whether you're cutting wood, or cracking skulls, it's still the same weapon with the same muscle groups.

If your chopping a tree down with any axe it's counted as wood chopping because your chopping wood.
