Well I made the experience from my countless beds around the world that the items on the floor stay there.

What I did not take into account that in these cases, the items were always in the radius of the workbench!

And when I built the house, I had to move the workbench: destroy it and rebuild it.

So there might have been times when there was no workbench.

However, I was able to restore all my items (took the numbers from an older savegame) using the following commands:

Valheim has to be started with the -console option. The console can be opened using F5.

Yes sure, but I had to move the chests because I built a new house. That is the reason why I dropped everything on the floor. Normally, I have all my items in chests with a sign what types of items there are.

What do you mean you put them in your garden? Like you just threw the stuff on the ground?

if you left items on the ground and there was no workbench around they are probably gone. Items on the ground, that are outside the range of a workbench, disappear after a few in game days.

Yes I threw them on the ground near my house.

The workbench I destroyed in in-between and made a new one. It is also possible that they were slightly outside the workbench radius.

The reason is maybe in your setting of the Steam Cloud. Maybe you have it "On" and have "preferred files are on the Cloud". Then, if you canceled your game incorrectly, the Steam client don't das the sync correctly and therefore you have today this state. I strongly suggest to switch off the Steam cloud and do backup of the ".\worlds" and ".\characters" directories ... You can also try to rename "yourWorld.fwl.old" and "yourWorld.db.old" to the "yourWorld.fwl" and "yourWorld.db" - in files with ".old" suffix is the state before the last sesion was started ...

No, I have switched Steam Clody sync off.

I have several savegame copies, the latest world backup is from yesterday.

Maybe I could download an item editor and get by my items this way.

Enable the console and use dev commands to restore it. Just remember to put stuff in chests even for temporary leaving. In a chest, even outside of radius of any workbench, it will not despawn.

That said though you need full coverage unless you want event monsters spawning inside your home.

Ok, fortunately I can load my last backup, write down the items and then use dev commands in order to restore them.
