One has to make at least 2 smelters & kilns. I have 2 smelters, 3 kilns & 1 blast furnace at each island HQ. Tis the same for stone ovens; one is simply not enough.

to this day over 2000 hours in the game i thought the kilns and smelters and everything else was amazing with no complaints yet you speak for who else??? just you, you insult the developer yet it will be me who gets banned.
you could put your post in the post "what you dont like about this game" or you could say änyone else feel the kilns and smelter are to slow and why?? a comparison. but you just go "for the love of god bla bla"

To be fair... I do think that the blast furnace should be a direct upgrade to the smelter, like how the iron cooking station is an upgrade for the regular cooking station.

That would make a lot of sense considering you need to go back and use iron bars to make padded armor, after you get the blast furnace.

pro tip. wait till dark fill your smelters and go to sleep. it speeds up time and should halve the time it takes to smelt a full 20 iron.

Make a smelter base in the swamp. I usually raise the earth connected between 3 or more unbreakable trees and roof it off as a base for smelting. At least some time can be saved that way so you can keep exploring crypts to get more ore while it smelts.

As as pessim said, also sleeping while it smelts helps.
