Enemies keep spawning no matter what defences I build

What is the point of building fences or stone walls if enemies will always spawn somewhere on your base territory? I understand that this is a survival game and there might be some difficulties on the way, but CMON. Why should I waste a lot of time and tons of recources if enemies will continue to spawn near me and destroy everything on their way? And if Greydwarfs are easy to deal with, waves of Trolls and Draugrs, who just spawn inside my wall-protected territory just make no sense.

You can use the Hoe and build up a 4 or 5 block high ground tower and put a workbench on top of it so they cant kill it. or encase it in stone..

Leave room in the berm for a gate and build a bridge over the moat. Then all you have to do is defend the gate (and there are even tricks to get around that). Your base is safe until you get to one of the late game raids and you can limit the damage from that by building a covered barn for your livestock.
I've done exactly what u wrote about before I wrote on this thread. And as I said trolls and other raiders just kept spawning inside the wall-protected territory. But placing work benches seemed to solve my problem.. sort of
You have to have the work bench coverage to build the berm. As long as you didn't remove the work bench after building the berm you shouldn't have had a problem unless you built so large you had an uncovered hole in the center.

If you put down a work bench it creates a "protected" aria where things will not spawn within a certain radius of that work bench. If you place workbenches and ring the inside of the walls (gaped out based on the circles) it will prevent things from spawning inside the walls. The Raids are on a 46min timer, when it tics that timer there is an RNG mechanic that determines rather or not a raid will happen, then there is a "Raid Pool" that determines what will come. Some raids are determined by the next boss you have to kill. For instance if your next boss is the Elder your attacked by Grey Dwarfs, Bone Mass being next you are attacked by Draugrs and skellys. After killing Bone Mass Modder will send Dragons and so on. There is also a secondary pool that unlocks after you kill the bosses that could send non boss specific raids such as trolls or skeletons these are included in the same RNG roll as the boss pool so you will only ever have one type of raid and you wont have 2 raids stack on top of each-other. so youll never fight Drauger and Trolls at the same time. To deal with ground based attacks spikes help, or you can dig a trench outside your wall or build a dirt cliff. as far as the air based attacks Fire arrows will be your friend. like Lumber Jack said some enemies can walk though water or swim around the wall. It can be frustrating when a troll rinses your beautiful walls (happened last night to me) but its part of the game and despite the frustration it keeps it interesting. Good luck finding the solution that works for you and good hunting.

Thanks a lot for such a detailed reply. Placing work benches really helped to keep enemies spawn in the distance, I guess I just need to protect the coastal area with walls and my life will become much more easier.

Cover your base with fires or workbenches.

as above, place workbench's encased further around near where your fences are, and fires behind the walls should stop spawning if the wall isnt fully around some swim around aswell, also spikey boys outter wall stops some, fire torch's aswell they hate fire some of them, if you build next to a spawner location try killing the spawner.
As for Draug spawning well that is a Raid means you have killed a boss when you kill the next it spawns lil dragons and next one if different etc.
