After the Elder you want to prepare for swamp play, build ur cauldron and ur fermenter. get the poison resistance potions and slowly clear the crypts lie Stvlepore said. blobs are best killed with blunt weapons. the other monsters in the swamp are overwhelming sometimes. take it easy an slow, goodluck!!

You go to swamp to find crypts which gets you scrap iron. The key is needed to unlock the crypt doors.

Poison resistance is a must or blobs and leeches will kill you off, having good food would help like grilled neck tail/cooked meat and queens jam or carrot soup, don't kill every enemy you come across sometimes running away is the best option if you're out matched.
The swamp is where the difficulty kicks in and going in unprepared bites you on the arse, also you can mine muddy scrap piles with the antler pickaxe so take a couple of them with you, skip the bronze pickaxe if you haven't already crafted it

Get yourself upgraded Bronze gear and prepare using the fermenter, poison resistance and health potions. Then you will die rarely

Swamp is where food and potions really start to be super important.
My best advice is search the swamps for food items. With upgraded food and poison resistance potions the swamp is a lot better.
Of course don't go there at night unless you want to make it more difficult.
The swamp key is obtained by killing the second boss. So you should have decent bronze gear. If you skipped bronze for iron you have to be a lot more careful.
Did you console in a swamp key or get one from another players world?

Those mosquitoes shouldn't be in the swamp, the swamp you're in might be next to a plains, which as of now is the most late game and hardest biome. You might have gotten too close to the plains and it followed you.

One tip about the poison resist. In the beginning they seem expensive to make which will make you hesitant to use them. This normally results in getting poisoned without having poison resist up and dieing. Don't panic just drink your poison resist and let yourself get repoisoned. This will apply the poison dot again, but at the lower poison resist dmg which will make it much more likely that you will survive.

Deathsquitos and fuling berserkers are plains mobs, don't bother wasting your time on them with bronze gear or you'll get killed off in 1 or 2 hits, personally i wouldn't bother with plains untill you have silver gear and poison potion requires 10 honey, 10 coal, 1 raw neck tail and 5 thistle Thanks for tips so back to the swamp the it's just the 1 hit mosquito that scare me lol, watched a berserker kill a troll then killed him. i learnt sausages and a few other things on on carrot soup queens jam and honey. i got small health potions but never made poison resist
Edit: It's worth going on thistle hunts at the stage you're at, just run around black forest and explore, don't bother with mobs while hunting if your goal is thistle, sausages are one of the best mid game foods, farm entrails from body piles and go on thistle hunts every now and again, you could mark thistle patches on your map to save time

To add to what velrac said here. Drink a poison resist as soon as you get to the edge of the swamp. Keep a close eye on its buff timer on your HUD. As soon as it runs out drink another one. Rinse and repeat until you leave the swamps. When you drink your last one start heading out of the swamp before its timer runs out.
The reason to keep the buff going is that the poison resist mead doesn't work if you are already poisoned. It only works if it's active before you get poisoned.
Good luck to you.

Fully upgraded iron armor is more than enough for the plains, you just gotta be a bit careful and have some proper food, avoid the camps though and run away from 2* fulings.
