tar

sometimes there's usable nodes on the edge, but other times they're all in the pool itself and unusable (cuz stuck in tar text). am i missing something? is there a way to get these?

So if they have figured out how to make tar flow, think that will ever happen with water?

With the trench method. If you dig it long enough the tar despawns at the far end. Much easier than digging a large hole.

I tried both methods on my one and only tar pit yesterday and digging works for sure, just leveling the ground is iffy and fully raising the terrain works also. c0mad0r's combo method is probably optimum as one can tune the method to match the specific tar pit's positioning.

Yup! Very useful when you have a lot of rock.

Personally, I like to dig a trench towards a downward sloped area and use the rock collected from that digging to raise the ground in the tarpit to finish it off.

the hoe method doesnt really work. I tried it and needed to build a bench to raise the land and even then wound up burring the large nodes I knew to be at the bottom. better and much easier to dig a trench and gain at least two stacks of stone on top of the full bounty of tar

Nah, don't have to raise the ground. Just get all your friends to help you dig a trench. You know what they say:

"Bros before..."

You dig a deep trench away from the tar pit, then start to dig towards it until it reaches the pit and all of the tar can drain from it. Make sure there's enough room for all the tar to drain and try not to let enough drain that you are submerged.

Very easy way is the plop down a workbench and then use a hoe with some rocks to life the land in the pit a few clicks. In a matter of some seconds the tar will rise unto the land you created and you can just pick it up off the ground. (No need to dig a pit)
