Power Creep rant.
Seriously, I hate this. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate this and how often it happens. I start getting used to the mob level challenge, almost full Iron set venturing into the swamp looking for further crypts, so I can make swords and shields, 2 skeletons show out of thin air.
Me: "That's nothing, hack and proceed"
by the time they're on top of me, 1 more skeleton and an archer join the swarm.
Me: "It's ok, I can handle this, did it a number of times before, retreat a little bit turn around trees, take them one by one"
The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ flying ghost joins the swarm.
Me: "Still cool, I can take this, Just parry the ghost, hack and slash it along with the skeletons it's the only threat in here, Did it countless other times, these ghosts die in 3 hits".
Parry the Ghost, attack it while it's staggered, I take around 1/8 of its health.
Me: "Oh... this ♥♥♥♥ again... power creep amongst the swarm..."
retreat as far away as I can so that when I die, my loot won't be in such a horrible place.
Needless to say, it's the swamp, so you can only run and jump so little before another mob shows up and blocks your path when the Power Creep is 2 steps and 1 hit from killing you.
I'm sick of how often this ♥♥♥♥ happens. I start getting the hang, and the game shoves a mob that's identical to the other 20 times you fought that guy, but this one is special, it deals 5 times the damage every other mob like it that I fought before and it's a bullet sponge. Some swamp man archer that deals 5 times the damage of every other swamp archer I've fought before, or a plains goblin that breaks 5 times the number of bones than the others while still looking like an ordinary mob.
That's NOT HOW YOU DESIGN GAMES. THe player must be alerted that there is a special creature that's stronger than the others and even when that happens it's a 1x1 encounter. Did you on Megaman, Sonic, Double Dragon or whatever game encounter ordinary mob in the middle of a swarm that looked exactly like the others but it was a Power Creep? NO.
This is specially frustrating because it's become the only situation where I get killed. Because the game will literaly disguise a VERY IMPORANT info, that there is a power creep amongst that swarm, a mob that's 5 times stronger than every other version of it that I fought.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KONpJjiHWXo&t=31sThe issue I'm pointing is not the number of mobs. But one particular mob that was way stronger than every other encounter I had of that same mob. A power creep version of the swamp ghost.

Are you talking about the big 1 and 2 star versions of mobs. It does show you...

Hi DuDun. Sorry, you managed to respond to that before my final edit, (I entered the wrong link, or @t=31s doesn't work here.)
I was reading your 'rant' and imagined how the Gods were up there screwing with you and laughing, then was thinking about how we can use those massive fallen trees as "stepping stones" through the swamps,
At some point the scene 31 seconds in popped into my head. I found it funny and just wanted to share.

The ghost is already on top of me when it shows up and I'm not generaly counting stars when 5 mobs swarm on me on a biome where I have to decide whether to jump or run.
Besides, the stars is a "really poor bandaid" to the fact the devs decided to stop making different version of a mob (like how you can easily tell a Brute from the other Graydwarfs) and decided to straight use power creeps that look identical to ordinary mobs.

I've only seen greydwarfs and skeletons show in different colors, not any other mob. Not the ghosts, not the swamp man, not the one eyed swamp man, not the drakes, not the wolves, not the leeches, not the plains goblin or Deathskitos neither the Sea serpent.

If you’re talking about wraiths, they can’t spawn with stars. They are resistant to all 3 normal weapon damage types and take half damage or no damage from pretty much everything you can damage them with at that point in the game.
I recommend just not exploring the swamps at night until you’ve got silver weapons since wraiths only spawn at night (and despawn at day) and they are weak to spirit which silver weapons deal.

All starred monsters spawn larger and in a different color which is dependent on the number of stars they have. Not every monster type can spawn starred versions though, but of the ones that can they are always a different color. Of the ones you listed, leeches, draugr, wolves and fulings can be starred and change color, the others never spawn in with stars (I’m not actually sure which mob you think is the one eyed swamp man though)

Every starred mob has different colors. Sometimes hard to see, I give you that. But if a mob attacks me, I IMMEDIATELY try to look at and see the stars. Their healthbar with the stars is hovering above their heads.
Then I can adjust my tactics. Most of the time this works absolutely fine. Very rarely I don't see them right away due to some angle I'm looking at. But once I shift around I usually see them.
Edit: "One eyed swamp man" is a draugr elite. And yes, they can come with stars as well. Had once a two star draugr elite on my tail. Man, that was NOT fun.

Eye think the one eyed swamp man is referring to the Draugr Elite. (I’m not actually sure which mob you think is the one eyed swamp man though)

Typically Power Creep refers to a game with gradual updates out preforming what comes before it in a negative way. What is a power creep? Are you on the right forum?
Car A for example was universally the best car when the game first came out, but has now been surpassed so many times that it is simply the worst of the best.
