It's a practical joke by the devs. I hate it so much. Its wheels may seem round, but in reality they are programmed as squares.

its sometimes very useful... if you have a road hoed to the base. however yes, it's best amount of usefulness IMO, is to load it full of silver ore and rock, throw or ride it down a mountain to a ship. lol, that at least is super fun and useful.

The blessed cart giveth, the blessed cart taketh away. Respect the cart and the cart shall respect you.
The cart ceases to be able to navigate inclines at around 800lbs (Units?) of weight. Do not let avarice get the better of you, simply make 2 easy trips instead of 1 nightmarish trip.

i think if we arent allowed to have a beast of burden to pull the cart, the strength belt should double that amount of weight load then... The blessed cart giveth, the blessed cart taketh away. Respect the cart and the cart shall respect you.

because if youre lucky or skilled enough to have a grey dwarf behind the cart while pulling, they somehow can move it with ease...

it takes alot of work to make the cart effective
nice path, unhitch before attacking mobs
do not overload it
but if you need to move a lot of items, make portals if you have the supplies
cart is only really needed to move lots of unportable items

You can use your axe and hoe while controlling the cart, no need for a second player. I use the hoe to flatten ground in front of me as I go (seems to work better than path option). And I pull out my axe if I have to chop down a bush. I never have to stop moving forward to do this. For silver I just load it up and push it over the steepest edge I can find then go down to the bottom, rebuild cart and load it up again. Being able to bring back 100 silver or 100 iron in one trip is very beneficial and I have never had a problem using it that way. They are also great for early storage options before Iron. You can make a few stationary ones in or outside your base for better inventory management. Also less frustrating than the raft for me on short waterways. Just build one, push it in the water, jump in the back and as you run you will move through the water.
The weight definitely affects movement, I always have my personal inventory to max weight to not over burden the cart. Also, and maybe this is my imagination, but it seems the weight is distributed like it is in the cart inventory screen. SO if I put ALL the silver on one side it tends to lean/pull to that side. I try and evenly distribute the weight from left to right when loading it up. I have noticed this same mechanic on boats also with leaning.

I wouldn't think it would work well in the forest. In the plains it's pretty easy to find a reasonable path, and the bushes are the biggest obstacles. I don't much effect from weight.
When I made it I had litle hope it would work, so I purposely thew all my metal in it to prove my point, and then it proved me wrong.
I would still use a boat if at all possible. I always try to build my bases near water mostly for that purpose, but, in this case I'm not allowing myself to use a boat, and many game days spent running through the plains didn't seem like a good solution.
I'm even able to swat deathsquitos and fuling without disengaging, which is nice, but I think it's also part of the reason for the breakdowns. I've hit it with my sword more than once!

You don't even have to make multiple. During the move I have quite a storage crunch, but found out that you can just park it, break it down, rebuild it, and go get another load. The containers work well as free chests.

Silver is what we are trying to move too. From the base of a mountain, cross the dark forest and reach the base which is very close, less that a 10 minute walk. With the current weight it's practically impossible. After almost one hour the cart has barely moved. It cannot handle 3k and it even with 2k it's probably a time loss. That's only 3 silver veins btw, there is at least twice as much. Even the first time I used it, with significantly less weight, it kept getting stuck EVERYWHERE, again black forest.

WOW thats alot of silver! I would suggest each of you carry about 28, or most you can, then put 200 in the cart distributed in the 4 corner slots.
Maybe even less so your cart moves fast. If you build a workbench close to your mountain stash then you wont have to worry about the silver despawning.

Not 2k and 3k silver, lol. I was talking about weight. 200 silver is about 2800 and the cart just doesn't move with so much weight. It can't even go up the slightest of inclinations.

Perhaps this is because your viking is too weak (said with respect). I have found that the better my run score is, the more weight I can move. There may have been a change to the mechanic that created the illusion, but after getting my run up to 60, I'm able to get 3k up a low incline. I created switch back trails up the hill and it works like champ. Happy to demo.
As an aside, carts can be used to help build in the water and capture objects that you can't normally reach. Since the cart can't actually sink, and you can stand on it like any object, you can actually build docks far easier when you can stand on something solid in the middle of the water. Give it a shot, it'll wow you.

I hated the cart when I tried it in my first playthough, but I just tried it again ther other day due to having to move my entire base a days run across land, and I've been wondering if I remembered it incorrectly, of if they improved it.
For the most part, I'm just pulling it through plains, so it's not as hard as it could be, but some of the travel is through swamp and most of it is on the side of a mountain, so still sloped and rocky. I've had the cart fall apart a couple of times, but I can make the trip in not much longer than it takes to run, and that's with (in the first trip) a significant amount of metal, and (in the latest trip) over half full of rock.

You mean to say this could be the improved version? Dios mio... We need two people if we want the cart to make it five meters through Black Forest. One is "handing" the cart, the other with an axe, a pickaxe and a hoe is paving the way.
A 5 degree inclination or a twig sprung from the earth is all it takes to grind it to a halt. How much does the weight affect its movement?

It may not be the best thing around, but I don't really have any big issues with it. I haul stuff all over the place with it whether it's on a path I've built or through the forest. It's not going to go over boulders or big rocks and with steep hills I just run with it. I make it work for me.
