Coming from Satisfactory, what is Valheim like?
Big time satisfactory player here, Im an 'exploration and building' type player (not one of theose factorio+ type players) and I was wondering what Valheim is like coming from Satisfactory?
Also, Im wondering about the combat. Generally when Im in 'creative buildnig' mode I dont like having enemies wondering up to me and killing me, can you switch combat off for creative building type play?

This game is "brutal survival Viking-themed combat simulator (with building elements)". If you're looking for something in the "fun buildy game" category, look elsewhere.
He can play it whichever way he chooses. His money his choice.

Are you claiming this game does not simulate combat? Where you got "combat simulator" from, I have no idea. Words have meanings you know, you can't just use them however you want.
Words have meanings, you know...

Can't argue with thisthats the best way to play it, ignore everything else said tbh OK, Im in the game now, keen to join others who want to play who are into creative / exploring .. if anyone (except griefers) wants to join up or knows how to, just let me know what to do, otherwise I'll just bumble about and will probably work things out for myself after only a few hundred hours or so :)
Piece of advice? Stay away from YouTube and the gung-ho tryhards that want to skip the exploration and discovery; getting right into the grind of gearing up for the end game as quickly as possible is a good way to enjoy this game for the least possible amount of time; to put it in Satisfactory terms, figure out how to make Reinforced Iron Plates before you start looking on the wiki for how to make Nuclear Pasta.

Currently you can build in a "creative mode" only by using console commands to access a free build command where you can also play in god or ghost mode so mobs leave you alone. Most building fans generally have a separate seed on which they will build and "live" in and another seed to farm and explore in just so they avoid the inevitable PVE raids the game triggers as you play.
In terms of combat, you will progress through different levels, each getting slightly more difficult and does the usual unlocking of higher-spec materials to craft from. This brings me back to the point about the raids above because as you beat each boss, harder raids will happen and they like to attack you at your base... which is why build fans will build on a seed where no bosses have been beaten and thus no raids triggered.
The game isn't especially hard but can be a little tedious and grindy at times, particularly if you're playing solo. It's probably the most fun with one or two other people with whom you can play through together at the same pace as all progression is tied to the world seed you're on and NOT the individual player.
There is an update coming relatively soon which will allow you to customise your game play without having to go into the console which is something I am looking forward to, personally.
All in all, as an EA game it's pretty darn good and very playable. There's also loads of mods available if that's your schtick as well. It was worth the $20 at first launch and still has solid value now with the updates they've done since then.

awesome those aspects sounds very much like satisfactory, thanks .. huge map... biomes .. ocean ...website where you can look up your seed and see the whole map
Sounds awesome. Using dev commands is pretty easy.... lot of mods .. alter terrain
OK, Im getting it, thanks.

There's almost nothing to compare between the two. You'll get more info by watching videos, or just asking about specific topics here.
As for building and enemies, they love to try and bother you. If you stick to the meadows, your average enemy isn't a threat, though tougher foes appear at night, and which enemies can show up depends on your progress through the game. The game can also send raids to try and destroy you and your home at almost any time.
To be able to build more peacefully, you can set up walls all around the perimeter of your land, and place certain structures that disable enemies from spawning within their radius. At that point, building is pretty relaxing unless a raid happens.
And an upcoming update (ETA still unknown) looks like it will have options to disable raids entirely, as well as many other customization options

This game is about cleverness, ingenuity, and creativity on how you build and how you kill the enemy. This game wants you to be creative in multiple aspects.
There is a creator mode by using devcommands. A simple YouTube tutorial will show you how.

Awesome thanks, great to hear there are ways round the enemies but still seems a bit annoying, whens the update due do u think?
Also Ive watched the vids on steam, beautiful open world, lots of building etc, seems similar to me in many ways - without the factorio stuff obviously. Any particular youtube channels that are best for a general overview? thx

Hard to say. The devs have been teasing the new content they've been working on for a while now, but have given no dates afaik.
I don't have any channels to recommend either. Sorry.

As far as exploration goes, it's got a huge procedural map. There are six playable biomes, plus the ocean, with two more biomes eventually, and maybe the ocean. Each biome has mostly the same stuff wherever you find it, but you can find a spot with several close by for easier access to materials, or maybe you're after a nice view. You have to go looking for the bosses and the trader, but there's also a website where you can look up your seed and see the whole map if you're not that patient.
Using dev commands is pretty easy. You can turn on ghost mode so the mobs don't attack unless you do first. There are also a lot of mods that will change all kinds of things. Tweak whatever number you want, craft from containers, plant everything (for making gardens), enhance your building options.
You can alter terrain and it's highly recommended to do so. Mobs can't jump or climb steep cliffs. A simple dry moat around your base will protect it from most of the raids. You can use the same character on different maps, so if you kill the bosses on a different map the raids won't advance on your building map.
