Building roof?

I love that the game offers building possibilities like you see below, so not everything has to be squares or boxes.... But how the hell am I supposed to build a roof on that with the options given? It's legit impossible... Or am I not seeing something/unlock something that makes it possible...

Watch builders build on youtube. Search Valhiem roofs. also, make sure the builder is not using any mods in their tutorials. Most of them are using Console/creative to build, and that is ok. you just have to use scaffolding to achieve the same build. Just make sure they are showing you how to do it in Vanilla.

You can stack roofs on top of each other pretty much. So if you do a spiral, just place a roof on side and be sure you cover all building or you gona get rain damage and it will look ugly.

Only issue with circular buildings is there are no roof pieces to fill a very small gaps if you go over the circle, but inside can be easy filled. You can however stack 2 roofs from each side to fill the gap.

If you wana get a perfect angles, you can use wooden beams, angle them just a bit and place roofs on them.

Here is just a small example what you can make using totaly basic materials:

you are still very early in the game judgeing by that screenshot. there is more build pieces you can unlock later on. keep going.

its possible to roof this :) but you have to get creative to do so.

dont get too much into building with wood at the start.... i dont wanna spoil it :)

keep unlocking stuff for now. youll see.

I've been to mountains before when that was the last zone available. And up until that I only unlocked stone stuff which didn't give more options for roofs. Do I have to get to the last zone for that?

there is more options in the plains for roofs and now in the mistlands aswell for building stuff in generel. especially mistlands ones are quite.... the sight to behold design wise :) they offer new possibilities not possible before without them if used right.

lets just say : the age of stone has mostly ended :)

You get 100 percent of the resources back when you deconstruct anything you've built.

Don't be afraid to build temporary scaffolding to reach the roof.

Also, I don't think the mountains were ever the last biome. The plains were the last when early access first started.

Try using core wood beams as a frame for now, they help solidify the structure you want to build at this point.

Use temporary stairs and scaffolds. That's the only way without cheats.
Also, do use beams and poles. Sometimes it's good idea to use horizontal poles at the joining point of different roof pieces to hold them together, otherwise they might fall.

not sure what you are asking. Its not going to be easy to build a roof onto a spiral, if that is what you are trying to do. The corner and inverse corner let you 'fold' a roof one level at a time and you can actually mix 26 and 45 degree. There is no way to make a smooth roof on a spiral, though. You will end up with folded segments.

The key thing to building that you need to learn early is that pieces clip into each other. That allows you to make say a cone roof on a round building, or even just a square roof on an oddly sized building.

with a little overlap you can get it roofed well enough to provide shelter and look good on the outside. Inside, the overlap is a little ugly, but you can hide it maybe, depending on what you really want to do here. Not spiral but simply sloped, its fine, you just follow the slope with your roof tiles.
