Game balance is the least of their worries I think. The games combat is really damn easy, and almost everything to do with the economy of bronze gathering/crafting makes little gameplay sense.

Will probably mod it to be more like the game I want it to be when it is more content-complete. Who knows maybe in a future patch or mod it will be possible for certain mob attacks to morph terrain.

But remember, it also looks ugly as can be. A moat with stake walls on the other side already looks 10 times better. Now if you actually make a city wall around your area from stone?, that's where the real fun starts.

Yep using earth walls, is kinda easy cheese, I get why people that are new do it, but I can take 3-4 Trolls at once with just a bow standing behind my Stake walls, just remember trolls can swing through walls and hit stuff on the other side.
