Need tips for transporting boars by boat.

We have a pretty old server that didn't have any starred boars on the starting island. We have finally found some in a dangerous area and successfully bred tame ones. However we have been having issues trying to sail the boars back to our base.

We start out with 4 tame boars on the longship deck, feed them before we leave, and are very careful to avoid anything that might aggro the boars and send them overboard, but they keep clipping through the boat!! We even sail slowly since it seems sailing at high speeds dramatically increases the chance of the boars clipping through the stern of the boat. It is always the stern of the boat too, they seem to gather there for the entire journey until they eventually clip through. Oftentimes when the boars eventually clip through the boat it is at night. The journey from the breeding site to back to the main base is 3 game days long-ish, depending on the wind/weather.

Do any of my fellow boar ranchers have tips for successfully transporting them by boat? Need help. :(

Tame boars don't follow. Wild boars do but only to attack.

I once found a 2 star boar that was not spawned at a boar stone. It was on the exact opposite side of the huge island my base was on. It took 2 1/2 in game days for me to lead it back to my base and get it in the barn to tame.

Perhaps when they release the ocean update they might provide us with a 'transport' ship model; slower than a longship, but with a pen/cage built onto to deck just for transporting animals.

Since you can't build on a boat I doubt there is another option unfortunately.

Only other thing I can think of is to keep your players jammed into the stern so the boars can't get there but I'm sure you tried that one.
The best suggestion I saw for this was for the devs to include pokeballs to use to move tames around.

i hope the term pokeballs is just a placeholder for something like a cage or something, because that sounds silly XD

would certainly be nice if there was a way to transport tames without risking them dying due to clipping or jumping overboard.

in my experience transporting wolves seems just fine, they rarely fall overboard or die at random due to clipping, but i imagine boars is a different story since you can't make them "follow" you, which means they start wandering, which means they screw with the physics of the boat, whereas wolves on follow sit completely still for the entire ride unless a mob aggroes them.

wolf cubs on boats randomly die due to clipping with the boat as well, because they essentially function like boars, as in; you can't make them follow you, and then they start wandering.

It's because they are grown, Grown boars height especially larger ones (1 and 2 star) allow them to basically use the ledge of the longship as a stair, with babies it occurs much less often and is how you are able to get them vast distances over water, however is not 100% fall off proof, i would recommend to plan your route near the shore, if they fall off they will usually swim to land and you can put them back in.

A ramp of wooden stairs up to a 2 floorboard long platform above the deck, preferably using a longship. Push them onto the deck or place food at the end of the platform, then destroy it once they are above the deck. Go slow, gradually building up speed, because too much acceleration and they can slide across the deck and debark. Stay far enough away from coastlines so they will not agro any enemies, but not so far that you are in Sea Serpent territory, as they will jump ship to attack enemies just like wolves will do.

I was just doing this in my game and noticed a couple of things. The boars only seem to wander and have problems clipping when close to land that they try to move towards. When i moved two boars on my longship around an island as long as i was far enough away from shore, they stayed put.

Your other option which is slower but safer, is to turn pvp mode on, harpoon a boar and stay tethered to it while you make the trip, make sure and get it on the deck though, or it can push the boat around etc.
