Crops go poof
Anyone else having issues with crops disappearing on them? I plant and come back and 50 to 75% of my crops are gone. I did not fence in my field do animals eat them?

Also workbenches seem to stop nearby random spawns, so you might have to hide a few around your base to prevent spawns inside the walls. Just make sure the radius of the workbenches covers the area.
Doh, I didn't realize that, but I guess it should have been obvious. Some of the walled area is just outside the workbench radius.

Plantable crops need an amount of space (about 1m radius; more for trees) to be healthy. After planting, it takes several seconds for the game to determine if crops are healthy (have sufficient space). Unhealthy plants will die and disappear if left alone.
Hostile creatures, notably greylings and greydwarves, will wander into your fields. Either by throwing rocks or scratching in melee, they will attack crops. You can ward off these intruders by building fences/walls around your fields. Spiked barricades can do a lot of good to repel these pests; keep them repaired to prevent losing them.

Not really sure with greydwarves, but I did have a Neck sneak in my base through a hole under the wall. Had to fix up the landscape a bit to make it all fit better.

work benches are a quick fix for sure, just wish dev would implement something different, kinda takes away from the Atmosphere, takes away from the look also seeing benches all over the place.

They will also disappear if they are not in a "healthy state."
Crops cannot be planted close to each other. Small crops have to be one "short beam" away from each other and trees have to be a full "core wood" length away from each other.

I had a walled off base with crops, and somehow greydwarves kept getting inside and wrecking my crops anyhow. It seemed to happen if I was near the base at night, but not inside and far enough not to see it happen. Occasionally I'd find a dwarf inside the walls, but I could never figure out if they were spawning there, or getting through the wall somehow.
