This game sometimes (or a travelers tale)

Set out the night before last to try and sail my karve around the continent I started on. Made it about halfway around traversing mostly black forest and meadows coastlines, with a little swamp. Had to log for the night so last night I popped in with the intent of completing the journey. Headed north along more black forest coasts and came suddenly on a plains biome so I changed course to get some sea room. It shortly became clear that the sea was narrowing and that there were plains on the other side too. I tried to hold to the middle, which put me in the ocean biome. There were constant fogs and storms, huge seas, the wind was dead on the nose so I'm paddling and the karve is getting tossed all over making it difficult to hold course in the center of the channel. Suddenly I heard a screech and a sea serpent reared up ahead. First one I have seen and I literally ran into him.

He attacked and hit the boat and I'm thinking I am screwed. All my troll armor and bronze weapons are heading for the ocean floor. I put about and got the wind behind me, dropped all sail, and just start scudding back south with him right behind me. The sea state made it very hard to steer and I didn't have much attention left over to give the worm. At some point I realized he was no longer behind me and I thought maybe I had outrun him. I made it to a black forest coast and just as I approached he reared up and screeched again. I ran the boat ashore and hopped off and he followed me into a shallow bay and was promptly set upon by a shaman and a brute. I started laying arrows into him, he killed the brute and the shaman was nearly dead when I finished him off. Killed the shaman too, and picked up the scales and meat. Did I mention there was a troll standing up on a hill overseeing the whole thing? Decided to put off the rest of the journey until I have a longship.

So one time my buddy and I were sailing up the north coast to recover my corpse at a far-flung outpost that had suffered a fuling raid long before its moat and walls were up. Bastards got in, swarmed, broke the portal -- it was a real mess. It's all I can think about on the way up.

Anyway, Danger Noodle shows its ugly head, voices its displeasure with us being in its waters, my friend bows it down off the coast of a swamp. My dumb naked ass jumps straight into the water on the kill, hoping to get a trophy/scales... and instead getting leeched.

My friend shot the leech, but not before the poison got me. My friend just took the meat out of the headstone and went and got my ♥♥♥♥. I can't be taken anywhere. XD
a strategy to try next time; have your fully geared friend go alone to your headstone and drop a portal by your stuff. You step through and get everything.

I had a similar experience running into a dead-end channel between plains and swamp, I tried turning the boat around, but some fuling swam out to my boat and started pounding on it. It soon became clear that the boat wasn't going to last much longer, so I decided to abandon ship and see if I could make it to the lesser of the two evil places, the swamp.

I was able to make it to the swamp, but started getting converged on by swamp creatures, even while I was still in the water. I made it to large horizontal branch that was partially in the water, so I climbed up on it. When I got to the highest point, I looked down and saw the fuling and swamp creatures doing battle.

I don't remember how, but the creatures were so distracted they ended up losing interest in me, and just stood there until morning. When it looked like the coast was clear enough, I climbed down, swam over to the remains of my boat and cargo in the water, re-built the boat and sailed off.

I have a similar tale from last night's multiplayer.

We were sailing on our karve, looking for the trader and swamps with visible crypts, but all we found was Plains everywhere.

We would sail north, only to see Plains, turn east only to run into more Plains, go west and run into Plains, sail south and then west only to run into Plains. Of course there were also storms and fogs along the way.

Almost every time we were next to a swamp a fog descended, so we could not see anything, especially crypts or turnip seeds in the swamp.

There was, too, a Fuling swimming after us from a tiny spot of Plains, in the middle of the ocean, that was just big enough for the creature to stand on.

We sailed for two hours, finding nothing of interest except two of those floating islands, but we already had 100 chitin stored on the ship and the rest of the storage space occupied by tin, so we didn't stop for those.

We ran into a serpent at one point, and it combined with a storm that bashed us against the ocean floor and rocks took our boat down to 50% "health". Escaped from that beast thanks to the wind, for once, being on our side.

Another serpent later on killed me after I fell of the boat while fighting it, at which point we'd mostly sailed in circles trying to NOT run into Plains and made practically zero progress overall.
