[CRITICISM] Mistlands
Hello, i havnt played the test branch yet myself but i have seen some videos about it and noticed things which i found strange.
I liked the first take on Mistlands, everywhere spiderwebs, giant bones and skulls and ofc this big dead oak trees, i could clearly imagine the giant spiders i have to fight there.
The second/current take on MIstlands is a bit strange tbh.
Its for my taste a bit too colorful/happy, there are this patches of land which are 1/1 Meadows next to patches of new looking ground, why?
If it has to be a mix i would have choosen assets from the Black (Dark?!) Forrest biome and not Meadows.
The hare is something i would expect in the Meadows, Black (Dark?!) Forrest biome and not in Mistlands except its dangerous and tries to catch you and drag you into his rabbit hole where baby bunnys try to eat you alive.
I personally would like to see next to the seekers and gjals also spiders.
The mine or infested mine doesnt look in the slightest like a mine, it looks more like a temple or a strange crypt.
The gate of the seeker queen temple looks also strange, these direction arrows on both gate wings look more like the entrance to the future then to the boss of Mistlands.
I really hope Mistlands gets more work and love so at least it will have the same level of charm as all other biomes in Valheim have so far.
The current Mistlands isnt awfully bad but also not as good as the previus biomes in my honest opinion.
I really love Valheim and cant wait what Iron Gate will make out of Mistlands :)

In earlier feedbacks from devs, they said it was intended to be a beautiful, yet dangerous place to go around. The colorful place makes contrast with the oppresive atmosphere of the mist. I think it's right. Not as dark as I would like, but I guess the idea was to make it different to swamp, which is already pretty dark and creepy.
I saw hares running thru many biomes, far away from Mistlands. I don't know if that is a bug or if they spawn in other biomes, but that is what I saw after few hours into the update.
Spiders were removed because of some people complaining about their arachnophobia and how adding such a mob to the game could make it unplayable for them. It's cute devs are kind with us players, but I think you shouldn't make a game thinking in some people's feelings about it. Should Ubisoft stop doing Call of Duty because some people suffer PTSD?
Ants are really cool by the way.
Dwarf mines are always temple-like structures in all medieval fantasy literature. So it's pretty accurate. I'm kinda sad about the lack of a peaceful approach to dwarves, who are friendly and even protect you from mobs sometimes. I would like to have some trading, like with Haldor, so you can progress and still being friendly with them.
I really like this update so far. It could be better with spiders and a darker atmosphere, but it's not bad at all.

If you're referring to Valheim, the game was release in February of 2021. Kinda hard to claim years when its not been out 2 years even yet.

Either you are trolling or trying to put out misinformation, they had a ton of bug fixes allowing people to get their games working, i'm sure those people would not call that "nothing", They updated models and textures, released hearth and home, worked on the bugs and tweaks for that and continued releasing patches while working on mistlands and they are still working to make sure it is stable for launch and you claim "years of nothing"?

Some understandable criticism based on expectations from the original idea they had.
Valheim is a colorful game overall however, and that was one thing that felt out of place was the drab and dark of Mistlands' original concept.
It was probably reconsidered behind the scenes to match the rest of the game's play on colors and thus why they went more vibrant. Only part of the game that doesn't feel colorful is mountains from what I remember, but even the swamps have splashes of color. Surtling fires, many different hues of browns, greens and blacks, purple leeches, etc.
I can't comment on it's similarity to meadows as I've only seen the trailer. It looks more like a place that might have once been meadowish but is overgrown and forgotten whilst steeped in magic/power.
Lastly, spiders (the webs) were probably reconsidered due to many people's arachnophobia. I was interested to fight the creepy eight legged critters, but I understand their not following through on that one as an enemy.
EDIT: Figured I should add an example of color, it's often done through reflections and the ambience as well as direct color of the environment https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2514856379

More people need to speak up about this.
I posted about this a long time ago when they first teased screenshots and thought the same thing. I got chided saying we should wait and see it come out before voicing concerns but lo and behold we get meadows 2.0 instead of the beautifully dark, spidery, thorny area that held unbelievable promise.
It is incredibly too colorful/happy. It's such an unbelievable disappointment that they decided to go this direction instead of keeping with the original atmosphere.
And now that there's all this work done on it they likely won't be backtracking and we're stuck with this.
