But for two tears...

So I am enjoying my current (and first) no bosses run.

Troll mine for the first copper/tin to make a bronze pick - done.

Stagbreaker to locate the oh so rare iron node and ooze killing for scraps to make an iron pick - slowest part, but done.

Stagbreaker to locate silver nodes - really quick when compared to iron nodes and done.

Mountain caves are actually pretty good for iron bar drops (from destroying the doors) and bronze (from destroying the braziers) so have some extra resources to upgrade with.

So up until this point there exists an alternate progression path (with no boss killing) and although it is noticeably slower it is rather fun. You truly benefit from exploring as you search for those hard to find resources.

BUT the only thing stopping further progression (because unlike every other tier there is no alternate way to obtain what is needed) is Dragon Tears, just two tears.

Perhaps in the future the developers might consider an alternate way to obtain tears. Maybe there could be a very rare chance to spawn a single tear in a chest in the middle of a well populated Fuling village for example.

So until then I am contemplating giving myself those 2 tears, but it is a hard one to decide.

As for your main point, I agree. It is an odd game design decision that only 1 boss ends up being a hard stop to progression. Almost looks like an accident and devs never anticipated how the other ones could be bypassed.
You don't need black metal weapons/gear to survive the Plains.
I would think, like most of the game already, that you only need the last zones gear to progress into the next.

Since there isn't a next zone to progress into yet there really isn't a need for it yet. Not sure they will change that though? Or maybe the mistlands gear will not be awful to get? Like black metal drops from enemies that are plentiful. That might carry on to the mistlands as well or something in the mistlands may drop some tears?

Hard call to make honestly as being unique in its workings isn't a bad thing either.

Agreed that surviving in the Plain is doable with what you can craft currently.

It would just be nice to be able to get more situated (crafting wise) in anticipation of the new biomes so I could try and continue this no boss save.
