...and those keystrokes fixed my no-register issue perfectly. Fired up Valheim this morning after doing it yesterday to success and I did not need to switch off/on my controller today. Tomorrow will be the final test, fingers crossed.

Valheim uses the Steam controller API, so if it works in Steam it should work in Valheim.

That said, I use a bluetooth XBox controller, and I've had issues that sound similar, although not as bad, as @rexpiscator. My controller occasionally does not work in Valheim when I start it. Fortunately I just have to power off / on the controller to get it to work.

I've had issues with my Xbox elite controller not working at start up. Pressing Alt + enter twice fixed it or me.

Says it says controllers fully supported on the store page. And the latest patch (yesterday)included this "D-Pad should now be usable in all menus

The problem may be else where?

I've had this happen with my Valheim build and my Windows 7 desktop. For many updates, my controller registered and I was off and running...

Then, not certain if a single update did this or if it's my unsupported OS...?? But my controller stopped registering in Valheim. I had to unplug it, then replug it and it once again registered and I can use the device. It got so annoying, to have to move to the USB port and do the magic; I bought a small USB hub w/switches and plugged my Xbox clone controller into it and now I just reach up and turn the controller off/on, then I once again get it registered.

I use a hybrid system; KB for hotkeys, and my Xbox controller to move....works great!
