Alternate play rules/styles.

So having played a kabillion hours of Valheim, I've been experimenting with different, self imposed rules to add some challenge/life to the game.

For the past couple weeks I've been playing strict hardcore, deleting character and world upon death. I've not gotten past day 100 and bronze (lol).

I've thought up of a few ideas...

1) Bow only (starting out with root armor). Player cannot use axe for anything but chopping wood and must rely bow for all offense.

2) "Soft" Hardcore, When you die, character is deleted, but world is not. A new character is created and Corpse of the previous fallen must remain unlooted.

3) "1 life per boss". You get 1 life to give per boss you kill. So if you manage to kill Eikthyr without dying then you have banked 1 life, if you kill elder you've banked 2 etc. If you die without a banked life, game over.

4) No portals.

5) 1 pair portals only.

Any of you played with a self imposed ruleset?

Curious to see other ideas.

When you die, do you delete the world too or just the character?

I'm not convinced setting a pack of fricken wolves on someone is in the spirit of either No Killing or No Weapons tbh. :D

I've been sticking with hardcore (dead is dead) recently.

I'm also still determined to find the bosses without activating a single vegvisir. Ironically, the only world where I have managed that (finding Eikthyr does not count) was a couple of days ago in a multiplayer world. We were searching for Moder vegvisirs, but found one of her altars instead.

(Naturally, I have no intention of trying to take either of these rules to multiplayer. Multiplayer is reserved for having a grand time with my friends, and I would never try to impose my single-player rules on them.)

Nomad run = no static base, you can build your base but if you gotta leave island u gotta pack it all up and take it with you and destroy what you can't take with you,(leave no trace) Only allowance really is you can store stuff long term in already existing chests. basically a no portal run aswell (so prob need a second boat packed in a chest at starting island just incase). I'm up to scouting swamps with this run, hope to continue this and finish it one day.

Explore without killing some bosses (and without their powers) nor using teleporters.

I'm currently at bronze age without having punished Eikthir; will see if I can reach iron without killing the Elder. Marchand was found two islands away, on a rather safe location.

Oh man. I miss co-op modpacks with hardcore plus extra lives to earn. Valheim is such a good fit for that kind of expansion.

I just made it to iron on my hardcore world.

It is day 99 now. Though I have been considering just deleting the character upon death and saving the world file.

It can be like ZombiU where a new Viking has to take the my character's place

Just check youtube and you see several styles or rules.
1. You can't kill anything yourself playthrough.
2.Speedrun the game
3. Vegan style. Or almost anyway
4. 1 life only as yourself are trying to do.

The 2 things I have not seen yet is a playthrough with no eating anything or apply a playthrough with no armor and 1 life only to that. But I think that is impossible or will take like forever before succes. :)

/nomap - however you can build one Cartography table at your home base and only look at your map when you're at the table. Must reactivate /nomap before walking away. Only marker you get to place is your base location. Everybody builds their own base in multi, you can share maps. No portals.

you want a challenge? play the whole game and can't use the bow, never ever!
more challenge? finish the game using only one weapon and it can't be the bow...
