Can you still bury workbenches?

I keep seeing people say they bury workbenches to lower spawn in certain areas, so I tried it. I dug a hole, put a work bench in it, and started filling it back up, and it broke the bench.

Either I'm doing something wrong, or maybe they patched it? I'm getting completely worked over the in swamps and just want to be able to lower spawn to something more manageable.

The most simple thing you can do is dig down, place the workbench, raise ground a bit (but not to much), fix height with pickaxe and then place stone/wood over workbench to hide it.

But a lazy way (and also doesnt look horrible), is to raise ground a bit so mobs cant reach it, place a workbench on top and some wood araund it and make it look like a beehive or something else.

I bury them under floor board. As far as I can remember putting them under dirt auto destroys them.

I believe you can bury a camp fire, however. Or could last time I tried.

We've not be able to fully bury structures like that for a long while now. As others mentioned, just dig a pit and floor board it.

Last time I tried you can bury it most of the way, then cover with roof. Could cover with floor, but on the chance it takes AoE damage I'd rather it doesn't start with half health from rain.

Mostly I start with a central workbench, then build workbenches onto walls. If that means my base is several walls thick well, ok, my inner stuff is more protected.

Stone is good too, you can clip a big stone wall through half a workbench, then snap another on the other side for complete coverage. Complete rain protection, solid against most mobs, and you can stack other workbenches on top for a high wall with work/forge/stone building ability.

If it's just spawns campfires are good - unlike work benches most things don't attack them, and once they run out they don't take damage from being stood on.

Currently I've got bonfires out beyond my main wall to aid in seeing event mobs - I don't even care about the spawns there but I guess it's a bonus.

If you want to put up a workbench in the swamp, set it on the ground first, then put a floor piece up a tree, break the old bench and then put it in the tree. Technically archers will still be able to target it, but it's rare that they do.

Alternatively, use the hoe to raise a bit of ground and put a campfire on it.

Remember to remove some of these when you get to the point of hunting wraiths for chain.

You can *almost* bury them but they do break if you completely cover them up. If you want more decorative spawn guards, use fermenters or wards or standing wood torches (unlit) hidden in the structure of your buildings or amongst bushes and things.

Jiroc the Viking has a good video showing what blocks spawns.
