Thanks to the developers, kudos!

Hi.
I am playing your game since 2 oder 3 weeks. Wanted a game which has survival, creative building possibilities and the feeling of vikings.
ok, i didnt know that i wanted it, but i know it now xDD

First i was disappointed, because of the simple graphics (reminded me of Word of Warcraft).

But i wanted to give the game a chance and played it (solo).

In the meantime i am at 50 hours+ and love it.
the combination of building, exploring and survival is very nice.

watched many youtube videos about building (the deep in how you can build complex building is overwhelming).

All the work you are investing in updating the game is one of much pluses.

Thx for the game, I wish you much success with it.

bye

Good Idea generally to play the first run without any mods, I did the same.
Now I started new to see what changed after a year and added some mods for QoL reasons. Only HD-textures, custom graphic settings and a little farming helper though, I don't want to go too crazy here. Its still EA and I don't want to check a long list of mods everytime this game gets an update ^^

If you don't mind modding you can do something about the simple graphics. There are HD texture packs out there which do look a lot better.

Please be aware that modding can and will break your game, if the game is updated and your mod is not. Always be cautious when using mods, even updated mods can interact with the game in a weird way (keypresses ignored and such).

I highly recommend using the ThunderStore mod manager, if you want to mod it the most safe way you can. You can search for mods directly in the manager, you can download them from there, and ThunderStore will take care of all dependancies, notify you of updates and allows you to individually en-, or disable mods.

Please also be mindful that mods that ADD stuff to the game WILL break your world with the vanilla game. You will always be dependent on this mod to function!

Valheim is still a game in development and updates will most likely break mods.

You also should do regular backups of your Valheim save game (modding or not). You can find it at:
C:\Users\YOURUSER\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim

Unfortunately the AppData folder is hidden at first and needs to be made visible. Let us know if you need help with that.

Good luck and have fun modding your game! I highly recommend though to do a vanilla playthrough first and then start modding, so you get the intended experience.

Keep in mind however that this game is still in Early Access, so use mods at your own risk, as they have the possibility of messing up your saves, etc everytime there is an update.

Edit: Yeah, what the guy above me said. /shrug

That stuff doesn't really apply to the HD mods, they're simple replacement graphics files you copy over the game directory.

Correct. I guess if an update touches those asset files, things might still break or at least look weird. For that case just make a backup of those files before.

thx guys. you're right. the vanilla game is at the moment absolutley sufficient for me.
a few months ago i tried modding skyrim and in the end i were 3/4 of the time trying to make the game run with it or find the problem of "errors".

vanila is enough for me at the moment ;)

But it's good to know that one day there will be mods

Good choice, I'm on my second playthrough and I've never touched any mod. Game is beautiful and has it's charm as it is.
Be careful when you get into a new biome, plan ahead and always have a retreat plan (portal back home)
As beautiful as the game is, as merciless it is, when you rush into a new biome and die from the new fears over there....

Happy exploring!

You're right. Died 3 times, after i crossed the sea. Built a raft and crossed it again to get my stuff back.
Actually i play in the swampland. First i thought this is my End and i lose the fun, but then i watched a few youtube guides and now i feel like a real viking veteran xDD
Built my first metal armor ...

60 nice hours later xDDDD

Thank you, bye
