That's not an "or."when you have 100 mill in the bank you can do things your way.
Or.......I can tell you that I still have montly pay (normal paygrade for my type of job) and that's that =) The money money that is earned gets taken a fair amount by steam, and then we have a publisher who likes to be paid, and then we have 10 employees that all have montly pay...
And then the rest of the money is stored in the bank until we need it paychecks and things like that :)
So no ferraris, drugs, strippers or private islands ;)

Not expecting them to hire 10+, but hopefully 1-4 more. There's the old saying 'strike the iron while its hot!', Valheim is popular right now, don't lose momentum :).
Anyway, hopeful, not expectant. There's a bit of playability/re-playability and it is a game you can leave and come back in 6 months. So it'll work whatever they do, as long as it keeps getting updates/expanded (at whatever pace) I am happy.
Valheim is not an MMORPG. It's success doesn't depend on hype. Apparently though most of today's playerbase seems to think a games success depends solely on hype and the graphics. Sad times we live in.
When they need 5-10 years to finish the game.. but got the majority of income within the first year something will surely go hella wrong. This isnt the kind of a game where they just get infinite funds to keep developing it.
I think thats why some people get a lil bit nervous when there is next to none improvements over the months.
It's not like they are like CoffeeStain.. which has more projects than only the eternal early access game Satisfactory.. and acts like some kind of publisher, hell they even make money with this one without doing much.
Iron Gate will surely discover how expensive and hard stuff can get when you need a decade to finish the only project you are working on without getting a steady stream of money.
Lets just hope the millions they did will be enough for them to actually finish the game without weird shenanigans.

Yikes, hearth and home was considered a big update, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ICE CAVES was considered medium? Jesus christ.....
They are not a big team/studio. Hopefully the sales allow them to expand.
I'd really enjoy faster updates/development but it is what it is, really just glad it is so enjoyable and playable while an alpha. So many 10s of millions wasted on so many 'big name' titles lately that were almost unplayable, this small team has produced a real gem.

Not the same takeaway but ok. Their team comprises of 10 folks.

They've seemed to indicate they don't want to have a large team. This isn't a triple A studio. They seem to want to keep it smaller to keep it sustainable. All too often studios grow rather large, make a game and then you see all manner of layoffs and other issues. Keeping it small(and as the dev said) keeps the revenue in a pool with which to keep the standard salaries going. And while they have sold as much as they have, the dev points out that steam takes a sizable chunk the publisher representing them another, and then all applicable taxes and other such things. Not to say they dont have a good set of money in the kitty, its just they're thinking long term versus short term I imagine. tortoise vs the hare approach if you will.

I'm only 164 hours in, but still have yet to make a boat. Oh I did just chop down an entire Black Forest. The whole damn thing. Was fun!

LOL, change your name to Paul Bunyan! Valheim should award a pet blue ox (lox) if you clear a biome of trees, haha. (well, a regular+ sized one). I'm only 164 hours in, but still have yet to make a boat. Oh I did just chop down an entire Black Forest. The whole damn thing. Was fun!

10 mil, wow, that is great. More than many titles with a lot more funding.
Expect disappointment and you'll never be disappointed
It is a good game already, the more stuff they add the better.
