On this I find my location, gather lots of materials to it in a temporary hut and portal, then wait for the first big storm to see how high the waves get, and build above that.

Just build up on a high enough hill to create straight walled trench around it far enough out, never had an issue except when they went around back and destroyed my boats at my dock, other than that they didn't even touch my base, just kept walking around it trying to get at me, which they couldn't.

My raid free base. I never had the drake event so I don't know if they need actual land to spawn or can spawn over open water. I get raid warnings but nothing can spawn in. I found a small island in a huge bay of my starter island. Took a lot of work but gives me a peaceful safe fallback.

Truth is, you don't even need walls of any kind when you are out on the ocean (although they are fun to make). All you need is to cover your property with structures that prohibit spawning. I have a patch of Plains out in the ocean. Just a big plot of land to farm barley on. I have the perimeter protected with hidden camp fires. Every "event" is a "non" event.

a decent water wall around the base covers it better then any wall, they dont jump cliffs. all u need is a pickaxe and a lower plane close to water...

Just don't build anything right against the stone wall as trolls attacks can do area damage. You don't even need a solid wall, spaced 2 block high pillars will even stop trolls due to.their size.

Your link don't seem to be working properly but as far as I know workbenches can stop monsters from spawning within the build radius if there's anything else I can do that I would like to know

Also be aware these are all items mobs will target if they can't get to you/know where you are. So for example if you make torches at your outer wall you want them on the inside of the wall where mobs can't reach them/can't see them, so they don't draw aggro.

I could give you a tour of my island base and my land base...both impervious to the Troll events.

My ocean base is solid, nothing gets in but mine is built on a super small island in the middle of the ocean, just prepare to take on some water during storms and high seas

Trolls won't destroy a properly sited ocean base. I suppose serpents might but their spawning rules seem to be based on a viking actually being in an ocean biome.

An alternative, in the case of trolls, is to have "walls made of cannon balls." An active defense. Shoot trolls, stay within their sight range. As long as they are chasing you and you keep several meters away from your Base structures, trolls will chase you and ignore your base.
