Switch from martial to mage? What's stronger?
I just got all the magic staffs. They're sitting unused as I'm trying out the new Mistland weapons and armor and they're pretty good. But I plan on handling the Mistland Queen after Xmas and want to prepare the best build so I'm thinking of switching to a mage build.
Something similar to:
- Summon Skeletons, cast protection, nuke the enemy with fireball/frost. Run around with my carapace shield blocking/dodging/running until mana recharges. Repeat as needed.
- Two magic foods and one stamina (plus meads depending on how tough things are). Or is 3 mage foods better since I can use the long lasting stamina mead?
- Eitr-weave robe and trousers for +80% mana regen. Maybe the Carapace helmet as it has twice the armor of the Eitr-weave hood and doesn't affect speed. Or is that a waste and should just go full Eitr-weave for 100% mana regen?
Any views on whether I should: go all out mage? Or a battlemage build (i.e. one of each health, magic, stamina foods)? Or use the old-fashioned melee and X-bow?

Before todays update it needed a rancid remains trophy (green glowing skull) to be built, now it‘s 4 skeleton trophies instead. I must have missed something somewhere then. I cleared out all the Mistlands and even beat the queen without having the recipe show.

That's kind of lame tbh. I like it when existing trophies are given new use.
Full mage is great in co-op.

My opinion on the stuff?
The eitr cost on most things should be heavily reduced, especially cause the eitr regeneration, even with the full mage set is absolute garbage. Frost staff seems fine, but the flame staff is just too much, even with full eitr, you shoot like 6 times and you are empty and can't do anything for the next 20 or so seconds if you want full eitr again.
The blood magic staves are nuts in consumption and the skeletons do jack doodles at low levels of blood magic and get killed in 2 seconds. Put down 2 skellies and buff them with a shield?, not enough eitr to do that at once and it also costs a ludicrous amount of health.
Leveling the stuff?, we should have early options for magic, or the exp requirements should be toned down for it. Tried leveling up blood magic for an hour or so and it got to level 7... those are supposed to be the early levels, early on i level up blunt weapons to 10 in that amount of time without even trying.
Queen fight with magic is one of the easiest fights in the game though, i went in with 3 eitr foods, didn't know what to do against me.

I'm currently leveling magic. I was a crystal axe/atgeir user, so trying for a hybrid battle mage.
At the moment I'm enjoying protection w/ Krom and have frost/fire staff on hand for different scenarios. mistwalker/shield and himmin afl on hand as well. Arbalest for Gjall. I hadn't used swords previously, so having to level that.
Food is 1 Stam (Salad), 1 Health (Glazed chicken, Fish wraps, meat platter, etc.), 1 Eitr (stuffed mushroom or seeker aspic)
Using the full mage gear atm, but i do miss fenris mobility a lot. I may mix and match a bit.
As for levelling, elemental is easy to lvl. Just hit stuff as w/ other weapons. Blood is a bit more tricky. You get xp if your prot bubble is broken by damage or of summons kill mobs. So I've been using dead raiser to summon 2 mobs and let them kill stuff. Swamps or BF are good spots with lots of mobs, and both have spawners you can camp too. If you find a big mob, e.g., Lox, Troll, Abom, fuling groups, or even seekers, put prot buff up on skellies sit back and recast as the shield gets broken.
So far, loving the build.

I‘ve completed Mistland using „old-fashioned melee“ and bow.
I‘ve tried magic, but i think it‘s rather underwhelming.

I really like going with a mage build. It took some getting used to, but it's a lot of fun once you get it figured out. I don't think it's necessarily stronger overall, but the change in playstyle is fun. Certain things it's better at, others worse. I run full Eitr armor, 1 hp food and 2 Eitr food. The last update made it a bit stronger as well, especially with another staff added.

A summon skeleton staff. It popped up this morning when I logged in after the update went live.
