Mistakes were made

I logged in to a friend's server. They had made some progression more than me. I didn't take any loot from them. Now, in my SP world, I am getting swamp raids. I have the swamp key in inventory from another play through, but I haven't slain The Elder. And yet I first got a Troll raid on my meadows base, and then I just got a rainy Swamp raid while totally unprepared, and died. I feel like this is a bug.

I'm playing for the first time - having never travelled to anybody else's server.
I started getting swamp raid before I killed the Elder - I believe it's because I have maxed out the Black Forest upgrades and discovered the swamp lands?

Hanging heads not trigger raids in random worlds, the time that the boss is first dead in that world do

Just dig a moat around your base, enemies can't climb. Easiest form of base protection since the game came out.

I have to say, regardless of how it *used to work*, my friends are experiencing the same behavior as OP.

We have a shared server we play on, and they have also started worlds and used their characters on both, but we've only defeated bosses on the shared server. For a "fresh" single player start, they created new characters and grabbed some early game grinding stuff (leather scraps and crap) to take to their solo world. On brand new worlds they were getting draugr and slime attacks at their newb starter bases with those fresh characters.

If that is not how it's supposed to work in the latest .11 then *shrug* weird.

Yeah, the only boss trophy mounted in my world is Eikthyr. I have one swamp key, but have not defeated The Elder in this world. Weird.

Trust me, "The Wall" (tm) is under construction. I do not support illlegal Troll and Drauger immigration. :steamsalty:

I just never had experienced this behavior before, that merely by visiting an "advanced" world, your character would become 'contaminated' by their progress, and infect your own world with these advanced raids, for which I had not defeated those bosses in my own world.

I had this happen a few days ago and when I respawned in my poorly placed bed I had to punch my way through a chest and woodblock to eventually get to my body all the while draugers and skeletons are smacking everything.

Now my main base has both a wood wall and stone wall beyond it for protection and since I didn't kill a troll I am not that concerned about raids doing damage to my base.

Yeah, this happens for the reasons already mentioned. The only thing you can do is fortify your bases as much as possible. I've found ditches work really well for just about everything.

even though you didn't kill the elder on that world, the game recognizes that you were part of a world that had, and therefore have the ability to reach the next biome which makes those attacks happen.

this is why you don't bring a whelp to your friends server unless you're planning on making it your base server, only bring your chads over for parties.

Thats not at all how that works.

Since the release of EA, have used multiple world saves outside of my main progression world for resource gathering and not once had anything beyond the boars and necks attacking in any of them. Having boss items like the wishbone for example, doesn't trigger any raids.
It's what you do in that world that effects the raids for that world.

Your characters gear or what it has done in another world has no bearing.

Never was like you said
Raids are anchored to the world not to the character via killing bosses and some mobs
No matter if you have boss items from another worldseed , in another where the boss n mobs werent killed , raids will NOT trigger
This strat is used for builders seeds that want progression but not raids in their cities since EA release

For OP : only that i can figure is that you invited another guy in your world/server and he killed alone the elder and a troll to trigger troll and swamp raids

use a massive height advantage

you can be drastically lower than everything, just make sure to dig out a cliff and be on the coast.

and then put workstations everywhere, get stonecutting going (you'll have plenty of stone from digging rock)

Create a "panic" portal. Put one down in your base label "panic", then keep the items to make another one anywhere. If you feel yourself getting overwhelmed you can always just go through the portal and then the worst thing that could happen is that the other portal gets destroyed.

Do you mean newly created worlds AFTER having joined someone that killed a boss?

I have killed the Elder in another world where I play, and yet when I return to my original world, I only get the Forest Moves as a raid. So I'm not exactly sure what triggers it from what you said.

I do not carry the drops from the Elder in my original world if that makes a difference.
