Boat Anchor??

I cant seem to get my boat to stay by shore and putting rocks around it just causes damage. Is there a way to secure the boat ??

I dock it along the shore and put some post around it to nudge it tight to the shoreline, usually there no damage except some very minor one during storms if any. Just have a crafting table near so you can repair before taking off again.

When you let go of the rudder make sure the boat is in "neutral" no arrows pointing up or down and it no bar left or right for direction change or that can still function even if you hit E and let go of the rudder.

Boats don't move when there's no one in them. We've got five longships parked in our harbor and none of them have moved since parking. Except ofc up and down with waves.

I've had boats parked at several places on the map and they've never budged. (I do put up a bit of protection to stop mobs wrecking them though.)

So to the comments that say they never move, I dont know but i logged out last night and my boat was on the shore and logged in this morning and i could see my boat but i would have died trying to swim to it. It moved somehow.

You jump off the ship and it will stop. Slow down your boat to neutral and have everybody exit the ship. It will cease movement until you board again.

This feels more like a player feedback issue. Players are on the boat trying to park but don't realise they can get off and have it stop completely. If there was some sort of anchor animation that happens once you exit, it would go a long way towards addressing these complaints.

my empty boat moves only when I leave sail and the wind pushes it away

otherwise it stays in place, even when waves damage boat... it doesn't swim awat

A book hook would be fine something you can grab the boat and pull it close to dock

There use to be a bug, where birds would make it move around.
Also just park it next to the shore, and place some pine poles around it.

Build a boathouse
Build a high roof.
Leave an open space of 6m for your longboat.
If using stone, i line the stone with 2m beams.
But do not use Core Wood, as this will make the 6m space too tight

I will post a pic later

I guess this is tied to the water not having physics. If the water could actually move the boat, then you could harness the power of water in other ways, potentially.

Your boat will move if a storm hits and the water lowers enough before the wave to bottom out your boat on the sea bed. it will edge out each time until it doesnt touch the bottom again. It can also be pushed around by sea serpants and trolls that dont destroy it.

Tip is build stone docking slots for it in shallow water so it can wiggle out during a storm or a covered boat house. That is really your only two options right now but i do agree we need some type of hitch to secure it to a dock or pillar.
