Things That Annoy Me
I'm new to the game and there's a lot of poor mechanics currently in the game.
- Building: The snapping is just awful and should be as smooth as Conan. For some reason Valheim programmers decided to make it over complicated. Building walls the wall will snap to everything except where you want it to go. All that needs to be done is you pick a piece already placed and it instantly snaps to the side the target is aiming at. Also some times the object you want to place can't even find a snap point based on the angle you are looking. I had problems placing a 35 degree roof center piece and I was standing right under the roof. It wouldn't snap to 45 degree roofs and I had to construct other floors and steps to get it to work. With Conan I could build 8 levels high without a problem.
- Deconstruction: When you destroy something the lumber will spawn in places you can't reach it. I built a 2 story house and destroyed a wall near the roof and the lumber spawned on top of the roof with no way to get to it without having to destroy more walls. This wouldn't be a problem if your character could walk up 45 degree angles, which is another problem, or be able to climb.
- Construction Menu: Make it like Conan. Build pieces you need using the Workbench with you being forced to use it for everything, put the pieces in your inventory and place them in 1-8 hotkey slots to use them. It's to clunking having to switch between pieces by having to right click to bring up a menu and then select the piece needed over and over again. The Hammer should only be used to repair.
- Hoe: It took me forever to understand how to use it and I'm still not 100%. The best guess I have it the inter circle will match the height of the outer circle.
- Map: It has no instructions on how to place markers. I just happened to find how by accident. Also what the hell does the arrow mean on the mini-map?

Rainy weather getting pulled through the portal giving you a 2 minute wet penalty in another biome like mountain etc.
...Build your portals IN a Cabin with a Fire...
It are mobile portals i place next to veins so i'll be at the silver right away and can run down the mountain quick. No running back up. Can do 3-4 runs down the mountain before nightfall or food buff runs out. Silver done, move portal to next vein.

How about you go back to conan then. I'm new to the game

All of these bits and the fact that you are new and can't or don't want to adapt to a new game that does things differently than you're used to, just screams to me that this game isn't for you.
The building system in this game is a bit finicky but by far not bad or even the worst i have encountered. The only one that i would say is kinda bad is Empyrion Galactic Survival's drone building system, too floaty for me.
EDIT: Oh and before i forget it: Let's not have specific Building blocks/parts as items. Only using base mats found in the world and the full refund system that is in now, means you can build the house that you want, without punishing yourself for trying different building styles.

when you are a person with occational motion sickness, the valheim building setup is just very exhausting... i would love to have an easier overview for building, since its usually my favourite thing to do. also i'm a little disappointed with the new update. i wished it had more farming and building possibilities.

Smooth as Conan? are you serious? This is so much better than Conan was at the same point in it's development and a long while after launch. I've build massive structures and there are times where stuff just won't snap. This is already better. And rarely has a hard time unless someone is in the way. This isn't Conan. It is already better for building in many ways. In other ways Conan has the edge. However you clearly didn't play it during Early Access.
I personally have no major issues with most of the things you are talking about. It doesn't need to be more like Conan.

Minimap arrow = wind
Hoe takes the high under your feets
Snapping= Shift or control disables the snapping (hold pressed)

Building is definitely a bit of a shock when starting out. With deconstructing they should try do the same effect as pulling cooked meat off the cooking stations how it flings toward player making it a bit easier to collect

Some of the mechanics aren't the most friendly, but once you learn where to aim, and how they work, it isn't so bad...
While building, and placing a piece, you need to aim your cursor at the surface you want the piece to attach to, as the game doesn't assume to know where you would like to place something. Yes, this can often be a bit of a pain, when it comes to surfaces you can't see, (such as the roof caps). If you are building something on top of your house, then get on top of your house so you can see what you are doing... Make temporary scaffolding to get up there and aim your mouse at the edges you want to apply pieces to. Any temp scaffolding parts can be broken down afterwards for full refund of materials... no big deal.
The Hoe isn't so mysterious, but also not super intuitive either... The Hoe will raise or lower the ground you click on, to match the height of the ground you are standing on, SO, it's best to stand in one spot and click many places all around you so all those spots are flattened, and match each other.
DON'T run around clicking wildly because each click will match whatever height your feet are currently at, and if you are running around, you are likely getting many different elevations and getting frustrated.
Stand in place and click spots in front of you (overlapping the circles) until the tool won't reach anymore, then move forward, making sure you are standing on ground of the same height, and continue flattening until you have the ground flattened, in the size you wanted... The circle indicates the size of the area flattened per click.
Arrow on mini-map is current wind direction... also if you look at the particles floating in the air, you can also see the direction the particles are traveling and therefore the direction of the wind.

Don't forget the fact you can't remap the item toolbelt hotkeys, or how you can't interact with anything when your hammer's out. Don't get me started on the split item dialog. Just make it like minecraft! Or give me a text box where I can type in the amount to split. As bad as 7days is its inventory system is leagues ahead.

You can go up slopes when running that you can't when walking. However, that does not include ninja running up a wall. you can make a ladder and get up on the roof, though. get used to the idea of making temporary bits to walk on or climb on when building larger homes.

That is THE worst thing about Conan by a longshot. I hated that Inventoryfilling, always rehotkeying, waiting for stuff to finish crafting before I can buildsystem in Conan so much, it actually was the reason I quit. I

A good buildingsystem would be Fallout78. It has its own UI and its own Stash for building items.

if you hold control well using the hoe it will try to level the terrain based on the center of the cursor instead of players location.
