Does local dedicated server advertise itself?

I created a dedicated server last week with all the port forwarding (non-standard ports) and whatnot. It never worked for friends outside of my house but I also saw 25 logged security blockages of attempts to access from "known bad IP addresses"... my ISP's list of malware distributers and compromised computers. They were from all over the world.. Russia, China...

Does the vanilla setup of Valheim reach out to something at Steam to advertise or broadcast the IP address of the server for anyone (with the password) to attempt to join?

Once I shut down the server and killed the port forwarding... my security alerts went back to zero...

AFAIK the server only reports to the server list ingame. For example, I have a NAS that's not accepting connection from the Internet, only on my LAN. Though, I often get failed attempts from all over the world.
It's probably bot networks that tries to brute force into random networks on commonly used ports..

This will happen regardless of whether the address is advertised or not - hackers are just unceasingly trying ports across every IP address. Normally your OS just kills the attempt if the program the port is associated with isn't open.
