Lost thrown weapon in the fog

I freaked out, when the big flying brain came near me, threw my spear, watched it go off into the distance; and now I can't find it in the fog. Is there a way to ping my spear, or do I need to craft a new one :(?

or...wrong tool for the job.

do you think it's NOT appropriate to have you lose your spear in the mist in a survival game if you throw it willy nilly? really?

when you throw a spear like this, mark your location on the map. then, look in the direction you think you threw it, and put markers in a line on the map. comb back and forth in this area.

you have 2 in-game days until it despawns.

if you think you know the general area, build workstations, which will prevent item despawning.

remember that in the mistlands there are a lot of slopes, so the spear can land somewhere and then slide downhill, far away from "the line" you made on the map.

you can also make a flint spear and try to "recreate" the throw to get an estimate on where the other one could have landed.

place whisp lights to remove fog in the areas you search.

make sure to turn on auto pickup.

if you are really desperate, consider smashing the stone obelisks to flatten terrain.

no spear left behind.

Nothing personal against you, bacon - but if these convoluted solutions are necessary just to properly use in-game features, it's just another notch on the "iron gate doesn't know what they're doing" tally...

why does this feel like an issue an actual viking would have after a battle? I'm laughing just imagining some poor viking raider trying to find his spear after he threw it at some dude and missed.

To me it sounds like someone threw their spear in a misty environment where you'll never find it again and have probably learned their lesson not to do that again. Not every tool is right for the job.

Personal opinion but spear is gawd awful. If you want to throw pierce constantly just use a bow and arrow.

just today i heaved a spear while sliding down a rock and missed a gjall. threw it like a football way the hell off. but i took (just some) of these steps and found it.

sure, could have just made another spear, but it felt great to problem solve. ive only lost 2 spears in 600+ hours, and 1 of those times wasnt my fault (spear didnt float back up from water).

It still glitters like other loot through the mist. Just go into the direction you threw it and it shouldn't be too far away. Spears are for nearby enemies to engage or finish off though and for being dirty cheap and fast. If you wanna DPS on range, use the other 3 options.

Yeah giving players options with possible downsides is always bad game design. That's why many games don't give any options that aren't solely animation based. Iron Gate choose to take another path.

That's just it, my hand spasm'd, clicked launch spear. I realised I lost it after the fact. I recalled seeing something fly, but I switched to my bow. So direction wise I have no idea which way it went; the fog didn't help that.

I mean, you can find the spear if you spend enough time, but you're going to end up making a new one and remembering not to throw it ever again.

I figured as much. I didn't mean to throw it in the first place, it just happened.
